wheelbase length
I have a 1971 D300 and I want to lengthen the frame to be able to put a ramp on it and haul a long bed sweptline pickup. can someone tell me the needed wheel base.

Re: wheelbase length
You could find a medium duty truck that already has a longer frame & swap your cab/drivetrain onto it.

I'd sell this one real cheap:

D400 with D500 front axle.

Re: wheelbase length
Its tempting, but it would cost quite a bit to get it from Cal. to Indiana. I built one on a 500 about 5 yrs ago and I sold it.

Re: wheelbase length
I sold a truck last yr that went to Ontario via Michigan. That hauler could move it easily.
Here are details on the truck:
Guy I got it from installed a wrecking yard LA 318, I drove it 25 miles home on the freeway. Engine runs great, needs carb clean, tune up, brake and clutch work, etc as it has sat in my yard for 10 yrs. I started it and moved it around the yard last yr. Dump bed works fine. Needs doors and seat installed and hood adjusted. Will include a 2 speed D500 rear axle, wheels and tires if wanted. If not, will include a set of like new rear D400 drums, shoes and backing plates with cylinders. Can also include a set of heavy duty rear leaf springs, overloads, u-bolts and bolt on spring hangers. This stuff is huge and heavy, off another D400 I parted.
All for $500. I want it gone and could get 4x that at the scrap yard, but not in the mood to cut it up at the moment.

Re: wheelbase length
71s came in two wheel bases. either 133 or I think the longer one is 156?? I have a 133 wb truck now that has been stretched two feet and I think to haul vehicles it would need to be at least another foot longer wheel base. also would need to stretch the back of frame a bit
