What engine do I have
What engine do I have
Hello,
So my students were able to get the old intake out and the surfaces cleaned. We went to put the new Edelbrock in place and it did not line up. Some of the coolant ports were way off. However it is the right length and the right width, well kind of. The fact that the new intake contours to the distruibutor and such tells me the Edelbrock intake is for a small block mopar, just not mine I'm guessing.
I was able to have a student take a picture of these numbers on the engine block, just below the left (driver's side) head. they are as follows:
PM318R 3_591934
Please note there is not an underscore but a character that I can not identify. It is kind of a half 0 or a backwards C.

Re: What engine do I have
Also, If I understand it correctly your stamped numbers mean:
PM318R 30591934
PM = Plant Marysville, built at the Marysville engine plant (or Mound Rd?)
318 = Displacement
R = Regular fuel
3059 = Build date December 12th, 1969?
1934 = Sequence number or the 1934th built that day
However I've also seen this:

Re: What engine do I have
The majority of the aftermarket 4bbl manifolds are designed to fit 360 heads that have much larger ports than the 318.

Re: What engine do I have
^^ This. I'm thinking you have a 360 intake & a 318 motor.

Re: What engine do I have
So Ian, what was the Edelbrock intake #?
If there are coolant passage misalignments, you may have received the wrong one... Those should match, 318/360

Re: What engine do I have
I have a performer series 2100 for chrysler 318/360 4 brl intake. It is cast into the intake just between the carb and thermostat saying 318/360. I have asked my Mopar friends and they swear it is supposed to be like this

Re: What engine do I have
Yes, that's correct. Bolt it in.
The opening you see (center of head, kind of a horse-shoe shape) is for the exhaust crossover/EGR, not coolant.
Where that is - the flat pad on the intake, below the carb linkage, on the opposite side would be for a thermal choke mechanism. Allows the heat from the heads (exhaust) to quickly heat up the choke coil, or EGR, or whatever and the floor of the intake plenum below the carb. Up here in MT, this helps it run better in the deep cold.
Your intake may have this passage blocked off... but while it is generally best to have the incoming fuel/air as cool as it can be, blocking this creates poor cold-engine performance.

Re: What engine do I have
fyi put some kind of thread sealant on the bolts. Edelbrock 2176 all SB.
If ya don't, you will get oil migration from the valley and get stains on that clean intake.

Re: What engine do I have
Does anyone have pictures of how their kickdown linkage and throttle hook up to the carb on an edelbrock? I am very close to being able to fire it up, but not sure about all my linkage. I am needing a few pictures and some diagrams of how it all works. I do have the throttle kit coming but not sure about the other stuff.
