Driveshaft length w/numbers please

Post by Jesuschrystler »

I swapped a '87 318/904 into my '70 LWB. I need the correct driveshaft length. Regular (not long) tailshaft. I measured 68" from shaft end to shaft end (not yoke), but I might have been generous. I'm finding later model truck driveshafts LWB with 66" ones, will that length work? I will need the correct yoke I know but is the 66" too short? Need some more info before I buy. I don't have the $$$ to get one made either.

I believe the stock LoadFlite trannys in Sweptlines were all the long tail shaft style.... so you may
encounter difficulties locating a bolt in shaft. :thinking You might want to check with a local
drive shaft specialist to see if you're getting into an excessively long one piece shaft. You
might need to have a two shaft drive line with a carrier bearing. :thinking :2cents I'm sure
others can chime in on this too.

I know there's a factory driveshaft for this engine/trans combo. I had a few inches cut off when I put in the slant 6/904 combo. I need a driveshaft for a small block 318 w/Auto trans. Cmon I know with 57 views SOMEONE knows what I'm talking about. Any parts guys out there...???

There isn't one for the truck it is in now, since that transmission was never put in a Sweptline truck from the factory. Where is the driveshaft from the vehicle you got the engine/transmission from? If it was a long bed regular cab truck you could probably have that one shortened. I believe it costs less to have that done that to buy a new one.
