MPG's? (LOL)

Post by Noelie84 »

I know that mileage really isn't the primary concern with these trucks, but I'm kind of curious what everybody is getting. Everyone's truck is probably different than how they came out of the factory at this point, but I think it'd be fun to see what people are averaging with different setups.
I've got a '69 longbed with a 318, mild cam (from an 80's 318, I suspect), inhaling through an Edelbrock 600 Performer and exhaling through headers into true duals out the back. Transmission is a non-overdrive A833 4 speed out of a 70's Dart, turning 3.55 gears.
If I play gentle with the throttle and just use the two primaries on the carb I can do mid teens (14-16) in mixed driving (50/50 split in town and back roads). But as soon as those secondaries kick in and I start using all 4 barrels...

On most of my tanks lately I've been getting about 10-12mpg's, because I just love that 4 barrel sound. There's something about hearing the secondaries kick in that makes me smile.

My stock '68 D100 got nearly 18 as an all-time best for me, but on average, I get about 14.1 - 14.3 mpg with it (318 auto, 3.55:1 8-3/4").

69 D100-128 318 with 2bbl Carter and an RV cam. Stone stock 727 and a 3.55 gear set in the rear axle. LT235/75R15 tires on all 4 corners. Front end and rear axle both rebuilt in 2011.
Averages 9mpg and tops out at 60 mph.
If I didn't build it, it ain't mine.

440 problems.

My dad used to say that a Mopar with a 440 could pass anything but a gas station.

For us it actually was for plowing snow and pulling a firewood drag. We had a late-70's power wagon with a dual-quad 440 that was a real torque monster. But, it was also a really thirsty lump of iron.

The only way to drive a Swepty.

Diesel FTW.

Of course, Diesel has been running about $1 more per gallon around here, so...

Diesel here in OKC is two cents LESS than corn-squeezins' (E-10) and a full forty cents LESS than real gas without ethanol.

@Noelie84 - yep, 2-bbl.

We're running about $2.75 for regular and $3 for premium around here at the moment. Diesel is running around $3.60 at my local station.
I kind of miss the days right after I got my license when I could fill the tank on my crappy old K-car for $10 :lol:
