What brand, type,and weight oil do you use?

Having just bought my first Dakota with a 239 CID V6, I would like to see what others are using since
things have changed so much from when I first got my license almost 45 years ago (December 1, 1968)
Back then my dad used straight weight oil, but in my 4 previous Dodge trucks I used Valvoline 10-w-40
This truck is a one owner and has 75,100 miles on it, which I think is good considering it is a 1999 model
made in October 1998

Probably was 5w-30 oil from the factory....

I ONLY use Valvoline conventional 20W-50. Engines stay spotless inside (avoid Fram filters).
I stay away from the paraffin based oils.
Synthetics are probably better, but why have an engine last a million miles when the rest of the vehicle won't.

Rotella white jug 15W40 in everything from the 1971 Honda CL100 motorcycle through the John Deeres and Massey Ferguson 165. It is old tech cam safe, unlike most other oils.

yup used rotella in my 1972 vette for the same reason. That car is long gone and the Sweptie ate all the money.

Somebody back in 2004 or early 2005 added that avatar choice to the site's generic list, and i jumped on it. Been here since Sept 2004 when I bought my 69 D100, Rat F**k the Wonder Truck, which was/is supposed to get parted out to resurrect my 49 Dodge B1B-108 Express. But my wife fell in love with the Swepty after we did some work to it, and even rusty and rodent infested wants me to fix it up, again.

I had a 97 Dakota with the same engine. I used Valvoline or Pennzoil 10 W 40 changed at 3000 miles. I sold the truck after owning it for 10 years with 120000 miles it used no oil and the oil was pretty clean at 3000 miles. I sold it to a co-worker and she is still driving it. I did treat it with Slick 50 at 75000 miles.

My 97 LHS has 281,000 on it 5W30 mopar oil all its life and it burns no oil and the oil is clean every 3000

I run Shell Rotella-T 15W-40 in all of my V8 cars and trucks, and Valvoline 5W-20 in the wife's PT ragtop. Nothing but WIX filters for me.

Castrol GTX High Mileage in 20W50 and always Wix filters in my car, truck and bike. I used Pennzoil in my car for 23 years, it has a high sulfur content and it took 2-days in the boiling tank to clean it up at rebuild time('96). My machinist hates it but I got 185K hard miles out of it with my 340.

Jus so all of you guys know....newer vehicles, if you dont use the correct weight of oil recommended from the factory, will set a check engine light and the code will be for incorrect oil weight. Had a guy with a 13 Ram 1500 that was supposed to be 5w-20 and he was running 15w-40 (like he does in everything else)....CEL and was making his VVT act up (Variable Valve Timing)

I was able to find an owner's manual for the truck (it didn't have one when I got it) and it specifies 10W30 oil.
The odd thing about this truck is that I thought I would see the "right" weight oil to use either on the dipstick
or the oil filler cap, but they both say see owner's manual.
