Just watched the 2nd episode and the truck turned out pretty cool. I have the same truck but its a '67. Personally, I would NEVER put a Chevy motor and Ford suspension in my truck but the show put the Sweptline out there. The thing I loved about the show is that Richard Rawlins talked a lot about the fact the the trucks are rare to see. And that's what I love about them. Just my take.

Well,From my point of veiw our trucks are not that rare. I see them all the time and i have 15 of them. The only thing that is rare is finding one that isnt all rusted out or beat up to bad. The only thing that this show has done is drive up the price of the good parts trucks still in the feilds around our countries little towns. This show is compleatly rediculious and it has really got me, my freinds and my family disgusted with the tv network for letting idiots like gas monkey garage on the air. :salut :Thumbsup :2cents

Do you really see them all the time? I'm not saying I or we have anything special or rare, but a truck that is really cool ( in my mind ) and a vehicle that is off the beaten path. Different.

I know were there is 3 for sale right now and one im getting for free. Ill give you the fact that there truck is different but who in there right mind would pay $50,000 for a bunch of miss mached parts and clear coated rust that will just keep eating the metal. Its just a waste of a good truck and its a blemish of the face of the dodge sweptline name. Don't get me wrong everyone is allowed to have there own opinion and i respect that. :Thumbsup :salut :2cents

I don't have cable and have never seen the show, But I would thing that anything that would make our trucks worth more would be a good thing. There are people out there and some might be on here that think they should be able to get these trucks cheaper then scrap metal. Now I have never been one for keeping a car or truck for all of my life, I will want to do something different after some time. I have had my 68 for 5 years now and I am thinking if someone would give my a fare price I would sell it and do something else. But I cants see letting a 45 year old running, driving, working truck go for a grand. And as far as being rare, were I am there is only one other one on the road. There is a lot of 60's fords and chevys. Well that is just my thoughts on this. Hope I aint made anyone mad.

The only places I've seen a "lot" of Swepties is Washington State, Colorado, and California. The trucks I've owned in OK were almost all bought out-of-state, so I know there are not very many in Oklahoma. I've bought three out of KS, two from MO, OK, CO and IA each, and one each from AR, TX, and NM; plus a '67 Swepty bed trailer in SD. Remember, in any given year, Ford built probably 15x the number of Dodge trucks through the Sweptline years, and GM was probably a bit more yet. Only International Harvester built fewer trucks than Chrysler, and I actually see more IH trucks than I do Swepties in Oklahoma. There are a total of five Swepties I see locally on any kind of a regular basis; my two excluded.

Swepties are scarce, they are NOT rare. There is a difference. Sweptline trucks are scarce. Hemicuda convertibles are rare.

Rayman, I totally agree with you about this miss match BS that the show did to the truck, and $50,000. Really? $50,000 for a miss matched Dodge with Chevy and Ford parts. But I have admit, seeing the look of the end product, put a smile on my face, because my Sweptie is a '67 short bed 2wd that is 10 times the condition that truck is in. I live in a town here in Roseville, Ca that has a population of 125,000 and I hardly ever see any around here. That's what I like!! I don't want what everyone else has. Just thoughts....

All in all, I think the truck they wound up with looks nice. :Thumbsup
I still don't like the fact that they put in a chevy engine. Also, I'm not
digging the fact that they didn't give that truck its D O D G E hood
letters back.... now that's just downright disrespectful... :censored

After seeing the final product it doesn't look bad. They could have chosen far worse looking wheels for it. I'm sure they aren't Mopar guys but wanted something different. They also wanted it to drive like a modern vehicle so that is why they chose the IFS and engine. They could have used any modern engine but there is more in the aftermarket for the LS engines, plus the lower costs associated with the swap. I'm sure they also didn't want to have to do a bunch of bodywork. That seems to be a current trend.

I'm interested to see what people think they can get for them now. If you know what you're talking about that's one thing. But when it's some guy who knows absolutely nothing about how the various systems on car or truck work, and wants 2 grand for a non runner that he knows NOTHING about because everything old is a "classic", I want to scream. Let's hope this episode doesn't encourage these people. When trying to negotiate it is fun to hit them with production numbers on their rare trucks though. :Thumbsup

Besides what's already been mentioned here, quite poor journalism in the show. The gauges shown in a flash, they put vintage air in but never mentioned it, no mention of p. steering or what kind of fusebox/wiring kit. Very little mention of the brakes, but they probly didn't bench bleed the MC is why all the air in the lines. Rear discs are a total waste IMO, leads to fiascos like the parking brake, and I had to dial down the rear pressure on my drums to keep them from locking up. Discs are probably even harder to get the pressure right.
Other "no value added" items on a "$50k" truck: How many miles were on that 11 year old engine/trans, which they put in dirty? Re-used steering column, with re-welded u-joints, no tilt, and ?? old turn signal switch. A new tilt column costs about as much as one of those stupid O-ring tires. Love to see what happens to them when you put 1000lbs. in the bed, as they bragged they could. And the Dynamat headliner? guess Sue was too busy with karate lessons, or the boys were too busy clowning for the camera to throw a piece of cardboard up there at least.
I know it's just entertainment, but the show could be much better if they just swapped instructional time for clowning time so newbies could learn something. I'm ashamed to admit I pay for cable to watch dumbed-down crap like this, which is about 80% of what's on anymore. You guys who are "off the grid" have the right idea, for sure.
Anyway, don't mean to end on a downer. At least they pronounced "Sweptline" correctly!

i know here in ohio sweptlines are pretty scarce. you will come across some d-300's and bigger. you don't see alot of half or 3/4 ton pickups at least not where i am. thats why i have a 1 ton. old farm truck. someday i would like to find a solid half ton 68-71. maybe when i hit the lottery or something.

It's a cool truck that's driveable, modern powertrain. Don't like the wheels, would prefer to stay in the brand, but I don't hate it.

Anyone notice that they didn't put any defroster vents on the newly painted dash? I think it was an even trade for his office. Those guys deserve each other. Overpriced truck and overpriced office remodel. All those new "reality" shows are all scripted. The guy that bought the F40 Ferrari planned the whole deal from the beginning...Dick got dicked and didn't even realize it. I did like the original color the truck would have been originally. My family had a '59 Bonneville (389 with 3x2 carbs) like the one they "rebuilt" on the show before the Swepty episode that was almost the same color, it was called Seafoam Green on the Olds.
