1971-Adventurer- Rescue

Post by jack569Valhalla »

A neighbor passed away. His brother gave me jeff's 1971 truck which has been parked unmoved/untouched/uncared for since 1996.Considering the situation, It is in remarkable shape!!! I am ready to begin the process of regenerating this great truck.
Does anyone have an outline boiler plate type plan of action I can guide the process by? I am new to this but very encouraged to get this beauty back on the road.

Thanks, Jack Jones

Cool that you got the truck and interested in it.
I would change all fluids and battery and see if it will run?
Then you will probably have a long list of rubber parts, brakes, etc.
More folks will chime in soon and you picked the right place because there is nothing that the folks hear do not know.
Welcome and please post some pics!!

My method for starting an engine that has been sitting for a while is to pull all of the plugs, find the tool you need to turn the crank pulley, squirt about 2 teaspoons of 10 wt oil into each cylinder and attempt to turn over by hand. If it turns rotate it a couple of times, check the plugs, points and such and then change oil, fill the cooling system, put in a battery and try it. I usually hook up a gas can to the input side of the fuel pump at first to avoid contaminated gas.
If you are lucky it will start and if not then troubleshooting begins.

This is just my method I'm sure others have ideas that will work also.......................Good luck
