under bed fuel tank
has anyone out there replaced their fuel tank with an under bed mounted one. I have a 69 d100 with a 318, I want to replace the tank.if anyone has done this, where did you find the tank and how much fab work was required to make it work?

Re: under bed fuel tank
I wanted to keep my spare so I put a lifestyle era truck tank under my driver's side cab/bed. 30 gallon and I'm running EFI so I needed a later (early 1990s vintage) fuel pump and return but the early tanks mount the same. Here is some info on my build thread. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=25321&start=80

Where does the fill tube end up on the lifestyle tank?

Where'd you get the tank? I've been looking around at mustang resto parts houses, and they don't seem to show the filler neck and cap with the tank. Did yours come with a neck and cap?calmauzy wrote:Here's how I did mine using a new Mustang fuel tank.

Re: under bed fuel tank
Regarding the Mustang fuel tank, it only came with the tank and sending unit. Can't remember where I purchased the filler neck and cap (EPAY?). Jegs sells one; http://www.jegs.com/i/JAZ+Products/547/ ... 3/10002/-1

Let me see what pictures I have of that.RH62 wrote:You have any pictures of how it's done?40YearOldFury wrote:Allot of guys fill inside the wheel well but I ran mine to fill in the factory location.RH62 wrote:Where does the fill tube end up on the lifestyle tank?
I used the factory fill tube where it comes out of the truck and the cap fits on and welded a maybe 45 degree elbow on it to drop it straight down. For flexibility I used rubber filler tube hose and connected a 90 degree out the back of my cab. I ended up cutting a hole like 2 1/2" in the back of the cab where it faces the bed and goes into the sidewall between the outer skin and inner wall of the bed...follow it along until it gets to where I could make a bend and have the fuel dump into the fill hole in the lifestyle. You have to measure and mock up and measure again and mock up again about 5 times or so. You always want the fill tube to have an angle so the fuel will drain into the tank and not back up on you or you will never be able to fill your truck. I'll look for some pictures tonight and see if I can find some. Let me know if I wrote this so you can understand it...lol I always have to tell my son...ummmm...let me show you. Sometimes not real good at explaining it in words!
Here is part of the filler I got off the lifestyle tank

These are both the necks I used

Hole in the cab for the filler to go through

Side of the truck...you can see the hole between the bed and the cab

From bed into cab

well....that's all the pics I could find. I'll take more this week

Here is where it passes through the cab.
