1970 Sweptline bumper replacement shared info

Post by alanhart »

I seen a post on here for a Ford bumper put on a 1970 Sweptline. Mine could not be repaired so I bought one. I will post some Pictures soon, Try and take them next day or so. But thought I would share, I bought and it worked out very nice. The bolt holes are different on the ford bumper, but all I had to do is swap the mounting brackets, put the left one on the right and the right one on the left. Use a step up drill bit to make the bolt holes a little wider because it is not exact. real close only drilled it out about another quarter inch. Used a washer as a shim to sit it up a little and fits nice. Not much trouble to make it work. Thought I may have to build new mounts but was pleased I could use the old ones by swapping them around. The bumper was $140.00 and $28.00 to ship, here is the link. http://www.autopartsfair.com/ford-exter ... -7746.html
I will post pictures soon, thought I would share the info.

That looks great! Seriously thought about using a Furd rear bumper on my Ute before I found the step bumper.

I think it looks Great, will probably do the same, on my 66 d-100 i used a 67 F-250 front bumper turned upside down, sounds weird but it looks pretty good, camera took a dump today, so you'll have to take my word. like you said reverse the brackets, easy bolt up.

If you have a wide bed and can't find or don't want to spend a bundle on a factory light duty rear bumper, Dennis Carpenter has the chrome '68 f100 rear bumper for $200. It has similar contours as the dodge lt duty. Not sure about the brackets mods necessary.:2cents

Thanks Txas2step, I just ordered it, I did not want to put my old bent rear bumper on after my new paint.

Not sure how that will look on a ute bed. That's a wide bed bumper. Hope it works out. Chris. BTW, I think the have the ford stepside bumpers as well.

That Ford front bumper looks great. I know what I'll be replacing my bent stocker with if I don't want to drive around with a push bumper on mine.

Quicky Utiline rear bumper for cheap? 84-97 Ranger rear bumper. Fits like it was made for the Dodge. Works on 1948-84 Utiline beds.

So will the bumpers posted above work on pre-70 sweptlines as well.?
And that 200.oo rear bumper for the Ute's, will that work on Swept's too.?

Sorry if those are stupid questions...!
