1971 Adventure front suspension on 1966 Sweptline
1971 Adventure front suspension on 1966 Sweptline
I found a 1971 Sweptline Adventurer in a junk yard yesterday, it had been striped but still had the complete front suspension with DISC BRAKES.
I thought disc brakes were not available until 1972, which had a different frame?
Also, I think the frame on 66 and 71 are the same?
Basically I want to convert my 66 to front disc brakes and was wondering if this suspension will work?
Or would I be better off going with the scarebird conversion?

It is probably somebody's conversion. Who knows what parts were used and when it comes time to replace parts you won't know what to get. Any pictures of this?

Here are the pictures I took Saturday. I didn't notice the 8 lug until looking at the pictures now.

That truck doesn't look like a Sweptline to me.

Doesn’t look like a Sweptline to me either. Take note of the wiper motor inside the engine bay
.

That's no sweptline! Steering box in front of the axle, etc. Maybe one of you guys with a lifestyle truck can comment?

A picture of the body may put it to rest.

Wait one Second! I have one of those out by the barn, it’s a 72 d200 with drum brakes. Dave I wasn’t paying attention to body; I was trying to figure out why I have seen that A-frame set up. i thought they didn’t have disc brakes till the late 70s on dodge trucks?

My truck has that same setup.

The only way you are going to swap that suspension into your truck is a frame splice or putting the 66 body on the other frame.

72 had discs available but not standard. I believe 2 wheel drive trucks had discs standard in 73 and 4 wheel drives in 75.Seff wrote:Wait one Second! I bet he's going by the build date on the door jamb sticker.
1972 model year truck production started approx aug of 1971.

Ya, my 72 d200 adventurer do not have disc brakes, but the arms and springs are the same.
Re: 1971 Adventure front suspension on 1966 Sweptline
Sorry guys, I looked at several 70s trucks Saturday and must have gotten confussed.
The 71 Sweptline was orange (I know for a fact because I got the tailgate off it), looking at the firewall in the picture this one is blue. This must have been one of the later models I looked at, the only Sweptline was the 71 I got the tailgate from. When I go back I'll find out exactly what truck the disc are on.
Again, sorry for the bogus post - I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part.
I'm restoring a 1966 Sweptline with a slant 6 (47K original miles), truck is very rough and has a long way to go. I will start another thread with pictures under member build and update through the progress.
