My '71 shop truck is almost done

Post by 1OFNONE »

You all have some great pickups and the site has some great info.
This is my '71. I really like the old shop truck look so I surfed the net for months until I compiled enough ideas. Then it took almost a year for me to find a 383 , a/c, ps, pb pickup. I have had it about a year now.
I took it to its first big car show this last weekend and people freaked out over it.

It isn't any wonder that people freaked out when they saw it. It looks great and you nailed the lettering.

Great work and a supreme result. :Thumbsup

Here's a nice way to detail out the back, under the tailgate. 4x2 tubing, welded ends, flat plate bracket welded on the back, goes thru the slot and bolts to the frame.

Thanks for all the kudos.
I have found two rear bumpers that look like front bumpers but the deals have all fell through. I will keep looking. If I get desperate I will fab a roll pan for it, even though I dont think it will fit the era correctly.

Parts are a bit tough to find. I hate to ditch the power steering but one has a big hole in it and cant find another. The local hyd hose places look at me like I have horns when I ask them to clone my set.

I've seen the pictures on Moparts. It turned out really nice.

I like the fact that it doesn't have chrome and you didn't use White or Black on the trim parts either.

How did you lower it?

I popped a couple leafs out. I am going to send the axle out to get a 3" drop this winter. Then I will add a couple leafs to smooth out the ride. These are brute pickups and were never meant to not jiggle the fat a bit while driving. LOL

I really like this! What was the wall thickness of the tubing you used?

What is the wheel/tire size combo you are running? That is the exact stance I'd like mine to sit at. Nice ride!

Fronts are 15x6 with 207/75/15 tires. Rears are 15x8 with 4.5 back space and 275/60/15 tires. if a guy wants big tires there is alot more room.
