So I really need some good infomation on engine mounts. I have a 1970 d100 with a 318 in in. The previous owner did not have the correct metal engine perches on the motor. The left side was bolted down like it should be but the passenger side was was too short to meet the rubber mount at the frame. So someone used a 2x4 piece of lumber to fill the gap! Yes wood 2x4! The engine still sat strange and heavy to the drivers side.
So I called Scott at sweptline parts and told him my problem He sent me a pair of metal perches for a 318 from a 1970 d100. It still comes up short on the right side mount. We struggled with it for the entire afternoon and its 104 degrees out! Finally gave up. The perches I have just will not line up with the frame.
Can someone please let me know if later model dodge trucks engine mounts will work in my 1970 with a 318? If so what ones so I can try and source one quickly. Thanks.
Where do I start. So long story short. Here is the casting on my engine block 4006730-318-10 To me I believed I had a 318. But now I'm thinking its a 400. The only casting numbers that begin with 400 on the left side are 400's and 440's. This is the reason the engine perches for a 318 never lined up with the frame of my 70 d100.
We made custom mounts and the engine is sitting as it should. As for it running well thats another problem. Looks like it had a carb fire before I bought it and the one butterfly is toast along with the top of the carb. I'm thinking I will go for a new intake and carb. I really want to make sure I'm seaching for what I need. If anyone can let me know if they also think I have a 400 engine in my truck before I go shopping for a new carb and intake?
I would like to also thank Scott from sweptline parts for all the help with my engine perch problem. He really went above and beyond to show us detailed pictures of engine perches he had on some of his trucks for reference.
