Looking for some opinions on a 68 D100

My friend asked my opinion about the truck, so I figured a little research was in order. I've seen it in person once and heard it start up and rev, but didn't get to drive or ride in it. I'll see if he's got anymore info about it. I believe the guy is asking $6k, Here's all the information I was given about the truck:

I'm no expert, and maybe I got a great deal on mine, but I wouldn't drop 6K on it. YMMV.

It doesn't look too bad. That "rat rod" black can sure hide
a lot though. You should look at the floorboards, rockers,
cab mounts and cowl just to make extra sure of their
"no rust" claims. It looks like it might have an NP435
4spd in it which, basically, can be considered a 3spd
due to the hellishly low 1st gear [normally 6.68]. Does
it have a sure-grip axle? How is it mechanically?....
Have things like the clutch, brakes, lines, drums,
rad, etc. been addressed recently? Is it electronically
fit, as in everything working ..... lights, charging
system, etc.? I've seen some pretty clean original
trucks for sale in the CA, OR, WA region that come
in at less than half the price of this one.... just sayin.

Yeah he didn't give me a whole lot of specific info about the trans or recent maintenance, still waiting to find out more about it. I know it has upgraded suspension, but it wasn't for sale when I saw it so I didn't crawl under and poke around. All the electronics are in good working order, and it's definitely in good mechanical shape. He drove it to phoenix from california when I saw it a few months ago, and I believe it has made the trip a few times before and since.

The guy is a gear head from australia, and this is just his toy for when he's in the US for business. He has some nice cars back home, and I know those had body off restorations. Not sure if he did that with this truck though, gotta find out. I believe the guy is pretty well off, so I'm not sure if he's trying to make some money or give a decent deal. I guess it comes down to what has been restored and maintained under the paint and in the drivetrain.

I asked the questions that you guys asked me and this is the reply I got from my friend. It's easier to copy and paste than it is to paraphrase and re-write it.

" Transmission is a 4 speed manual

Diff ratio is a 2.91

Unfortunately drum brakes all the way around that I had done. I would change to a disk front end. There is a kit I found for less than $400

Motor is pretty fresh. I don’t know the miles as the engine is an upgrade. This came stock with a 318.

The engine is a 360 with lumpy cam, hypo heads, edelbrock performer intake, Edelbrock 750 DP carb, Hedman tune length headers, Accel distributor

I have replaced all the shocks to Rancho RS 5000. These are very heavy duty and you can really get on it if you want

I have replaced the regulator unit and new Battery, New Alternator, New Bridgestone front tires and Faulken rears

I have put an Ipod dock sound system with 200 watts worth of sound in it

It has an oooh aaah air horn installed

Complete top end gasket kit with chrome dress up as well

Mopar Performance air cleaner with K&N Filters

The engine has just been serviced, oil change, filters, etc

New universal joints

Steering adjusted to remove wander

The odometer shows 90,000 miles (Dont know how accurate that is

The engine does not blow any smoke, starts first time every time and given how much grunt it has must be pretty fresh

I have put a new pully with a balanced expander so it can’t spin out of center and works much better

I have the floors ready and was going to double seam weld the truck when I installed these. If you take it I will do that for you

I have replaced the headlights, front indicators, added bumpers front and rear, treated the inside of the tray with the Kevlar protection paints (tough *#%^) and installed a tool box that is lockable in the back"



Sounds like the trans has the oem gears, but I'm not sure if that rear diff is the oem ratio. He said transport to texas from cali is $250 and he'll cover that.

My friend isn't looking to restore the truck or keep it original, he prefers the loud and aggressive style. He needs a truck to tow his evo rs to the track every month or 2 in case something breaks. Plus it would be a nice truck to take to the local car meets that go on around dallas every few weeks. I've seen maybe 3 of these in dallas ever which is why I had no clue about the value of the truck.

My opinion would be to wait for a truck with half the price tag that hasn't been "screwed" with. I would always say to wait for what you're looking for b/c Sweptline trucks seem to always be for sale.

The paint sucks; if you are going to paint a vehicle, why not do it right? The hoods dinged up, you need to know what Heads not just Hypo since that is not a smallblock identification, he's basically sugar coating it with words. It was basically maybe a $1500-$2000 truck that someone dumped $600-$700 in and slapped a big sticker on.



This is my opinion and i am certainly not an expert, but I do not see honest $6k trucks too often.

Yeah, that truck looks a little hokey... Anyone else notice the el-cheapo tach/speedo cheesed into the middle of the dash? Not trying to bash the truck- it looks like it has potential, but $6000 buys a cleeeean sweptline... Hell, around here $600 buys a clean sweptline

It does not have any of the crappy stickers on it. They had put them on when I bought it

I have put all the proper chrome badges on

The truck was painted matt black when I bought it. I am a sheetmetal worker by trade and have restored plenty of cars myself.

There are a few minor scratches that require spraying putty but thats it. If I was keeping it I would realign all the doors and panels to get perfect gaps as well

The truck has not been screwed with other than the engine which is sweet and I dont see that as a bad screw with it. The tacho, etc was put in as there was already a hole in the dash and I did not want to hack the original instument panel. The hole can be easily repaired with a flush welded panel.

If you wanted a show truck it certainly is a good place to start. As far as the price is concerned I paid $4750 for it and put at least $4k into it as well not including my time. I have driven it to Phoenix and return plus other long trips and it sings. The only reason I am getting rid of it is because my business partners say it isn't corporate enough. Personally I prefer cool to corporate.

Us northeast guys will pay more for a swepty, but for 6k that thing better be a low mileage survivor. I paid $1000 for my '66 and if I dropped another 1500 into it I'd be right where that truck is. Not trying to kill your deal, but come on, i doubt a c10 or mid 50s f100 in that shape would even command such a price...

enjoy it then I'd say you got yourself a decent deal.

Yeah that's a good and correct attitude. I like it a lot and have decided to go the whole hog and turn it into a complete beast. I will eventually go rack and pinion, power steering disk brake front end, 3.23 gears, and probably a 727 torque flight. I really want to have it as a daily driver that I can take to the drags and have a go. It should also catch a few people in their sedans and coupes unawares lol.
