just got a donor car, 80 newport....has a good working a/c unit and was wondering if it will somehow work in my 61 D100....it all mounts under the dash (except compressor of course) ..........also going to use the fuel tank, tilt column, power seat, power antenna.....and scored a diplomat front suspension......going to tear into my baby next week and start the operation....been driving it and enjoying it, but time for some upgrades. thanks for any help and encouragement.....

Re: air conditioning
Sir
You may have some problems getting the Pulley's of the 1980 A/C Compressor
to line up with the older Crankshaft since most of them did not have enough Pulley
Groves in the correct location to match the 1980 Unit.
If I am thinking of what I am reading, you are saying the 1980 car has a under the
dash after market A/C Unit and you are going to use this part under the dash
of the 1961 Truck.

Sir
The 1980 NewPort had a "in-dash" designed A/C Vent when the vehicle was
with the A/C Option. If the Unit is attached to the under side of the dash,
it is an after-market unit.
The after market design from just about any maker will attach to your 1961
Truck. It will not fit in the center if you have a floor shifter sticking up from
the center.
Any 1980 to the end 318 or 360 A/C Compressor will bolt to your 360 if you
get the complete unit of parts from the pick & Pull. This means all the Pulley's,
braket's and etc. This may cost $80 to $100 .
While you are planning all of this move the Radiator forward some ( 1 1/2 - two inches ),
get a very very short shaft Clutch Fan Drive and either get or make a Fan Shroud.

$1000
Re: air conditioning
i have a complete donor car with working a/c, so brackets, pulleys, etc are no problem....and it is a factory set-up, not aftermarket.......i'm going to tear the yorker apart next week and will know more about the a/c unit then ...it should fit under my dash, i don't have a 4 speed shifter in the way anymore, so that should'nt be an issue......

If you do the install yourself, they are that much. The price I quoted was for the place that did mine in the 70 D200. Jimjuddoats wrote:i dont think the vintage setup is that high i was thinking more like

Re: air conditioning
I don’t want to highjack this thread but if I have nothing now, what would be the best bet for some type of interior cooling? I survived last summer sitting on ice packets. I was going to go with a bee catcher but I don’t think I could get it to mount flush with the top of the window as our doors have a nice curve to them. I guess I could fabricate some kind of an adapter.
Are these ebay auctions for a full A/C kit worth the price?:

Re: air conditioning
The price sounds about right, 2/3 of what I spent was on labor. Jim
