brake master cylinder
has anyone found a cast alum. body with a plastic dual res. master cylinder that will fit a swepty? my 68 already has the steel dual res. master cyl. with the two bolts holding it to a flat plate and then the flat mounting plate has four studs on it to mount to the firewall. you would think there would be a master cyl. that would interchange.

I plan on using one similar to this but I believe it is cast iron, not aluminum. I have seen one Sweptline with a master cylinder similar to this one.

Oh, I forgot you probably don't have front discs. I will so I can use a newer master cylinder.muddyoldman wrote:has anyone found a cast alum. body with a plastic dual res. master cylinder that will fit a swepty? my 68 already has the steel dual res. master cyl. with the two bolts holding it to a flat plate and then the flat mounting plate has four studs on it to mount to the firewall. you would think there would be a master cyl. that would interchange.

Re: brake master cylinder
I'm running a Raybestos two bolt aluminum master cylinder meant for a ~'85 Dodge B150 van. Sounds like you already have the 2 two 4 bolt adapter. No vacuum booster, no hydro boost; just my foot, the master cylinder, and 4 drums. Clean and simple, just how I like it. I think I paid like $35 from RockAuto.

trannys, there is a stand-off bracket that
is needed to clear the clutch master cylinder.

To keep things clear.....MountainMoparRobin wrote:This is the booster you need with the master cylinder to mount to your firewall: this is remanufactered going for $233
[pre-'69 100/200 manual tranny trucks]
The power booster on pre-'69 100/200
trucks does not mount directly to the
firewall. There is a "stand-off" bracket
that is necessary to keep the booster
from interfering with the clutch master
cylinder. According to what "Muddyoldman"
states, the booster pictured in this thread
is "very close" to fitting his bracket.....
meaning.... it is not a direct bolt-on part....
for any who are looking for just that.....

Re: brake master cylinder
Mine came to me with a dual-line master cylinder so I can't say what it's from. Here's some shots of all that stuff.

Re: brake master cylinder
Could be, I don't have any reason to believe it's been molested. I thought it unusual that the lines from the master are rubber hoses, and I have no idea if a dual reservoir is standard in '68.demulsion wrote:Looks like the stock set up to me.elacruze wrote:Mine came to me with a dual-line master cylinder so I can't say what it's from.
I'll be getting a little more familiar with the brakes soon, the right rear is weeping onto the backing plate and has developed a hint of pull to the left when stabbing the brakes.

Dual reservoir masters were standard in '68. I hadelacruze wrote: Could be, I don't have any reason to believe it's been molested. I thought it unusual that the lines from the master are rubber hoses, and I have no idea if a dual reservoir is standard in '68.
that same set up with rubber hoses on a '68 W200.

Re: brake master cylinder
My 67 W200 is also the dual reservoir master and has similar rubber hoses, but no power assist. I was never sure if the lines were factory since it had a brake line lock installed in it for wrecker service. From what I've read, the 67 was the start of the dual reservoir master cylinders, my 66 Satellite is a single pot, 65 W200 started as a dual pot and 67 W200 and 67 Barracuda are both dual pots.

My '67 W200 came the same way and it has been in the family since new. The only real changes made were since I owned it.deadendcustoms wrote:My 67 W200 is also the dual reservoir master and has similar rubber hoses, but no power assist.
