Work? Where do you guys work at?

current job is corporate service manager for a high end manufactured home company. worked for the company 5 years now, started on a sales lot as a service tech and just this year took the coroporate position. great job, hardly ever in an office, the work is repetitive but the scenery changes a lot as i am at a different customers home almost daily. i am the whole crew... planner, scheduler, parts runner, plumber, carpenter, electrician, carpet layer, glass installer, mason, roofer, painter, drywall, hanging doors, etc etc etc, if it breaks, or isnt right...im the guy who goes to fix it. the new position has me going from lot to lot to help the service techs that cant keep up with the work load, showing disorginized lots how to become more efficient, and training any new hires to make sure they understand the job requirements. since our company covers 5 states, im all over the place...lol

in the past i spent 4 years as a mechanic at a local garage and did apartment maintenance on the side. worked a few years for a hotel as head of maintenance, owned my own company working on phone lines as a copper cable splicer for about 6 years, worked for a nasa contractor building water and gas analyzers and did the delivery driver thing in highschool for napa to help finance my obsession with my rides.

there i no such thing as a perfectly built home. most of what i do is repair damage from the punk @#% truck drivers that take these things down the highway like they are running nascar. id compare our construction to any site buit home any day of the week.

Russ, we have big fans in the bay that come on when the doors open to vent the exhaust out of the roof. Maybe that's the minimum OSHA standard? Cool that you were a truckee because that's what I am. We try to cut as many holes as possible. My partner and I cut 6 last year which is pretty good around here.

I do not work a normal job.
Heck I do not work close to a normal job...

I am a contract Courier in the mornings 3 days a week, do maintenance for a block of apartments and offices in my spare time and Sundays. Mondays I spend at a friends garage working on what needs to be done for free but more often working on my stuff. Mostly though I am a full time dad to 6 and except for Sunday and Monday when the wife is home I try to keep them from destroying the house to much. My wife works afternoons into night so one of us is always on kid duty. This year our youngest is full time in school so all of a sudden I have a few hours me time... I am slowly rebuilding a fleet of toys after years of not having time or spare cash and the 66 Utiline is going to be the king of the fleet.. If I ever get it done with out going insane.

I hate computers... part of the reason I prefer the older cars... They were great cars until they messed 'em up by putting those pieces of crap in 'em. Good thing my dad is the IT guy... I'd probably throw a fit and use a hammer on 'em.

I doubt any of our trucks cut any more vents in an average years time. I was assigned on 3 different trucks in my career and don't think I recall cutting that many. We actually tried not to cut them unless absolutely necessary. Now the Jaws of Life, particularly at my last assignment, we used a lot.

Our exhaust system had flexible pipe with a big magnet that sucked onto the side of the rig and vented the exhaust through the fan system and out the roof.

Before this I worked in IT and consulting for one of the big 5....hated all the traveling! I also worked in the hospitality industry and am a certified Hotel/Resort operator through the AHMA.
Not always what you do.....they are kinda just "work" and they call it "work" for a reason!

And my boss told everyone down there that I quit cause he didn't want to call me in for work. So, I went in there and quit for good.

I just stopped by the old house a few days ago. After 11 years gone there were only 2 guys I knew and had only worked with 1 of them. I don't think any of the others were even hired when I retired. Anyway, the fan system is not even in use anymore. Apparently after I left there was some testing done and the emissions were low enough without anything they no longer use it. Seems like someone might have thought to do that before the $$$ were spent to install this in more than 20 fire stations? But what do I know?

BTW, they still have the same rig that was new about 5 years before I left and it still looks very sharp. They have been doing a pretty good job with it. Gotta be nearly time for another new one now.

I used to build tires for BF Goodrich until the plant closed a year ago. Now, I am working at a place that makes plastic vials for the pharmaceutical industry. My job title is Maintenance Process Technician. We work on the injection mold machines as well as process the parts made. There is a lot to it, but I am just glad to be working.
