Re: Searching...
Come on down! I'll split the truck with you. You can stay at my house, we'll have it swapped out in a few hours.

Re: Searching...
Found another neat 68 or 69 camper. Saw the backside of this one from the highway and thought, "that has got to be a Champion Sweptline!" I'm getting better at spotting the rv's even.

There was a factory optioned Nissan diesel available for the Scout. It could also be a swap or just a large exhaust.dietzdiggler wrote:interesting scout, the exhaust is huge, diesel maybe?

It's a gas burner. I've seen it driving around a couple of times now.soopernaut wrote:There was a factory optioned Nissan diesel available for the Scout. It could also be a swap or just a large exhaust.dietzdiggler wrote:interesting scout, the exhaust is huge, diesel maybe?

Re: Searching...
Well I've found several more trucks, 2 pie plate tow trucks, 1 A100 van and several more campers. Only got a pic of this pie tow truck with the van that I found today. There is also a LARGE bus on the other side of that barn that I think might be a Dodge.
This property actually had no trespassing signs and no one answered the door so I couldn't get any closer. Also, check out this 50's truck he had! I can't wait until I get back east to investigate the other locations I found.

Re: Searching...
Got permission for a closer look today. Pretty rough. Nothing I really need from it. The A100 looks halfway decent. Not exactly rust free, but very restorable.

Re: Searching...
Today I met a really cool young man that own's this 67 D400 tow truck. It was his dad's and he has great hopes or restoring it. He doesn't currently have internet, but does plan to join the site!
This 70/71 D500 was pretty straight looking and looks to still be in good use.
The turquoise D300 pie plate, and bugeye were both in the same place. They were old Indiana State trucks. This place was LOADED with junk as far as the eye could see through the woods. There was another turquoise pickup that I'm almost certain was a bugeye swepty, but I would have literally had to wade through a swamp to get a closer look. The owner wasn't home to find out more, but I left my card with the lady that give me permission to snoop around.
And finally, this motorhome is AWESOME! And it's for sale.
No price or info listed, but I could see a generator in the rear and it's a Travco with a 413.
All of these I found on the same road, which happens to be the highway that member BCW lives on.

holy cow! those are some more good finds!
Re: Searching...
I believe that green 50's box truck was a Railway Express Agency truck. Anyone remember that company? That was how you shipped things before UPS and Fedex came along. REA trucks were common and plentiful back in "the day" but most have dissappeared now. That one looks to be in fairly good restorable condition.mopardwh wrote:Well I've found several more trucks, 2 pie plate tow trucks, 1 A100 van and several more campers. Yeah I beleive so.Russ wrote:That one looks to be in fairly good restorable condition.
Saw another Dodge Winni today. Parked next a Duster, there was also a Cuda out back.
Sometimes I wonder if Dodge made more campers than pickups.

Re: Searching...
We had a Winnebago Chieftain when I was a kid. I remember it slept like 8 or 10 people and was huge at the time, that was back in the '70's and they were called "campers". I seem to remember it was powered by a 440, but I'm not sure. Now they make "motorhomes" that are really more like custom motor coaches.

Re: Searching...
Another nice looking winni, and I found 3 more of the large motorhomes on monday. The 1st one I keep seeing in a j/y from the highway, so I finally stopped. White w/ blue stripe, and very rough. (No pic). The 2nd one was completely cut off of the frame! (No pic either). Who knows what they are making out of it, but I could tell what it was because it still had the grille and headlights. 3rd one is someones house in the big town of Russelville, IL.
