I call that jacking over a fellow enthusiast . Just because you may choose to "maybe" buy something you dont need because you miscalculated, why would you feel good about costing some of the rest of us more $$ just to play your game?

Alot of us only bid on stuff we need. The "lesson" you posted is not only not cool its juvenile.

"If u bid early, u are a fool and here is why."

Call me names if you want to, but I am definitely NOT foolish.(Well, opinions may vary on that one! ) I bid how much I am willing to pay...period. I have never once went back and increased my bid. Either I win it or I don't. I don't have time to play the sniping games with all you professionals out there! I do however see the point in not bidding when the opening bid has not been made yet due to the fact that the seller may lower it, but 99% of the time the opening bid for what I have bid on is waaaay less than I was willing to pay (you can usually tell when the seller is using the opening bid as his "reserve" price, in which case it is usually higher than I want to pay anyway)

Recently, I pretty much don't even bother bidding. I look for stuff with a buy it now price so I don't have to wait for a week or ten days to pay for it and get it coming. I don't buy anything that I don't need, so when I go shopping I am looking for something specific.

Anyway, to each his own. I love Ebay. I just saved $35 buying my drag radials from an ebay store...same price as Summit or Jegs, but free shipping, and no order handling fee!...and, a buy it now price to boot! :salut

ok - Terry voiced his opinion and everyone has had an opportunity to respond. i know Terry fairly well and i can assure you he did not intend to call anyone names so just let it go...

if this turns into a pissing match i will lock this thread.

anyway, i agree with Terry for the most part. However, like others who have commented i rarely have enough time to monitor any auction i am interested in so i put in my max bid and hope for the best. if someone snipes it they snipe it... but they had to earn it in any event.

Too bad we cant constructively disagree with each other (with0out anyonie getting personal or using any kind of bad language, i might add) without the threat of having this thread locked Ben. Dont think anyone was getting "pissy", but you obviously saw it different.

i might be quick with the lock trigger and i do tend to over react but this is what i read...

i have quite a bit of patience but i do have a short fuse when things get out of hand on this site. they are no where near "out of hand" so no worries... yet.

Didnt mean for it to be personal. Just going off the old adage that "a fool and his money are soon parted". Meaning, that's what will happen if u are an early bidder on ebay.
If u tip your hand in the game, dont get butthurt when the other players take advantage of your folly.
No need to have a pissing contest. The only result will be that everybody gets pissed on.

Well, I guess I am doing it all wrong. I am often the first bidder, and seldom win.I never really NEED the item.If I see someting that I think I ,could use in the future at a cheap price I will put just the starting bid on it. (like the clear lenses I bid on that Wally bought that he didn't need either ,until he breaks one :joker )Many times I get smooooking good deals,as nobody else bids.A year or two later...somebody needs this part, sometimes it is me :dance .It's like picking the fruit while it is ripe.If someone wants it more let them pay another two bits ...but why let it rot on the vine.
As for posting auctions... done that too . I remember a few years back there was a guy selling 110' spedo cables on ebay.seems like the price was $15. He had a whole case of them. I bought 6,then posted the auction,so others with Power Wagons could buy them before the jeep, ford and chevy guys got them.I saw the other day that I am down to two cables. :2cents

I'm sorry if I took it personal, but I was quoted in the post that said "you are a fool". All I was doing was defending my position...not trying to get in any kind of peeing contest. I like the banter, it helps all to understand both sides! Please don't lock us down!! lol

What I do have a question about though is this: Why is it that the quote "I call it supporting fair market value and in the end you pay a damn lot more" looks like I made that statement? I am not the one who posted that, but every time someone quotes it, it says that I did? Not that I totally disagree with the statement, but I would never phrase it like that...I'm not that confrontational!! Again, just wondering why I am being quoted for something I didn't say? Just a question...

This is a good question...and maybe the answer... :joker

It seems as if we are allowed to misquote others on this forum. :thinking

If I really got to have something off of ebay & it has a buy-it-now price that's reasonable, that's the route I take. I have bid early & I have bid last minute. If I bid early I don't keep bumping it up though, nor am I ever the first bidder. I usaully win when it counts for me, but not always.

I have posted ebay stuff online here before, with the idea that if someone HERE is really interested, then I'd like for them to have the opportunity to get it. I am not trying to influence the market. Of course if I'm interested in an item then I follow the efficient market hypothesis & keep my mouth shut!

Exactly, how ya think I got that mirror for $4.99? I kept hushed up about it!!! I try not to get too wrapped up in an ebay auction or take it personal when I loose one. It's all for fun, to me anyway.

I mean by posting to the public. If you know someone needs something PM them. I am lucky to have the friends here, I have had about 6 people PM me with things I really need and that is what it is all about!!

:salut

I generally don't put much ebay stuff onsite. If I know someone needs a specific part I PM them..... If I believe if something might be desired by the general "sweptline" public or is just unusual/interesting, I guess I may have put it on this site, but never intended to create a bidding competition between members. I don't always know who needs exactly what parts, especially if its been a while since they have mentioned wanting something. Does the same ebay etiquette apply to Craigslist since its not an auction? I do appreciate everything that others post concerning ads, both ebay & craigslist.
