what sump??

Post by 440SCOUT »

ok i got my daughter her first vehicle and its a sweptline!! a 1969 d100 swept short bed.. :dance
any way it does not have an engine, i scored a 82 cordoba for free with a good running 318.. i want to put the 318 in the swepty but....
my swept needs the front sump on the 440, does the 318 also need a front sump pan? i know if i leave it stock height it should be fine but i plan on dropping a few leafs and lowering it down some... if i do need a front can i get one from a poly 318 or are those pans different ???
thanks doug

The A & LA318s in Sweptlines had front sump pans. An "A" pan & sump
will fit the "LA" & vice versa. :study

i was looking at my 70 with a 440 and it looks like a rear sump would interfere with the tie rod...??

I got my 440 out of a car, it had the sump in the middle, springs were re-arched (just in case) I drove it like that from 1990-1998 then redid the truck and got the rear sump because it didn't look like the fronts sump was going to clear the axle, and I wanted to drop it bad, so I bought the rear sump, droped it, posted pictures here got 4-5inches on the drop by taking out the support spring and the small spring, still would like to go lower, as you know I don't baby mine I drive it, but, your better off with front sump, but in all reality any of them will work on stock springs :Thumbsup

have you seen etsweptsters white 70? he has a 408 stroker, pulls wheelie's off the line, his 360 has the rear sump, he runs 2 leafs, thats why its so low.
what kind of driving do you think the daughter will be doing, dirt road, maybe a street race or 2? if you stay with the straight axle suspension, like you have found its pretty stiff and I don't thing you could jump the truck high enough to bottom out, but CSS Registry posted pictures of that truck having some issue's with the spring hittin, but I've done some jumpin and haven't came across that, but we have all seen etsweptster's video's pullin wheelie's and not hittin the oil pan. :study

I bought a brand new rear sump from mancini to put in my truck and didn't need it. Anybody want a rear sump big block pan, $100.00.

I thought I had plenty of time, now she's 14, my wife is pressing the issue, better get the car so me and her can get it fixed to her liking, she'll be out wet sanding, spraying, engine work, with my supervision and probably more than just watching    enjoy :Thumbsup
