Colorado Hail Storm in July?
was woke up by hail stones coming down so hard I thought the roof was going to cave in, high winds, trees completly lost their leaves, Yes the swepltine was outside, along with the Willys and my Wifes car, which has broken windshield, the design of the windshield on the 70 & Willys protected the glass, but after all the hours of work on the body, in one night, enough said I'm devistated, sad, sad, day, The house has damage, its going to take time to rebuild, so much for car shows
neighbors all out checkin on each other for some of my neighbors had trees fall on their house, not much sleep

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
Sorry to hear that, Mother Nature can be cruel at times..... I guess you can be happy that no one was hurt.
Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
Dang, that bites! Glad you are safe though.

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
It was pretty vicious down here in Parker but nothing like you experienced. Did you get hail damage on your Sweptline? That's pretty thick metal. Post some pics. Are you one of the 50K out of power? I had my roof blown off last Monday down here and it's currently covered with blue tarps.

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
Sounds like a tornado, sorry for the damage, at least it can be fixed, good to hear you and your family are okay because people can't be replaced. Sounds like a good neighborhood also with everyone checking on each other.

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
We have a guy in our area thats called the dent wizard. He has some way of working dents like these out from the back side and never breaks the paint.Seen some work hes done and hard to see a blemish anywhere. Unless you were in in all out golfball size war he could do well....I had a similar experence years ago...had dings all over a car I had.Never saw a hail stone at all... My then 4 or 5 year old son found my ballpien hammer and "helped" me do body work

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
Estimate to fix wife's car $7800.00, thats above the blue book value, Swepty well I have no comprehensive coverage, I'll just have to drive it and take the critizism of all the dents. Electric company came out and cut the limbs off the power lines, I spent my night like everyone else in the area doing our own clean up, their looking for assistance from the Government, ha!
ha! that would be our own moner anyway
by the time the slow acting Government gets involved we will already have most of it cleaned up, just like most other natural dissasters, except the ones that stood around complaining about the government should clean up? We're doing like everyone on the Gulf Coast does after a Hurricane, CHOP CUT REBUILD
The Swepty will wait until after The Cruise and then CHOP CUT REBUILD

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
I know how you feel. Six years ago, a tornado took out all but one of my vehicles (I had 11 at the time), my shop and my house. Lost 151 trees, too.
Always remember - Stuff is just that - stuff. You can replace stuff. Any storm you can walk away from, is a storm. Be thankful - shiite works out, eventually.
Hail is not that unusual in the Denver area, for those that may be wondering. Nor are straight-line winds that whip down from the foothills at speeds up to 125 mph! The Front Range gets the very same weather we get in Oklahoma - tornadoes, ice storms, volleyball-size hail, tremendous straight-line winds.
Homeowner's policies do NOT cover vehicle damage - that is what auto insurance is for. If that were the case, no one would have insurance on vehicles. I had a car inside my shop that had liability only - guess what? It was totaled, and my responsibility to replace. I knew that beforehand, and sucked it up.
The Government does not "clean up". It's up to the property owners to do that, because that is their responsibility. On some things, your insurance covers clean up . Things like tree falls and such - usually not. That comes out of the property owners pocket. All FEMA does is help folks that do NOT have property insurance - and then, just enough to allow the house to be inhabited safely, or get relocated locally to a rental home or apartment. They do NOT take the place of homeowner's or renters insurance, and are not designed to..

Bummer! Feel for ya, been through that stuff my self.
I have family near Brighton and have seen the hail cannons they use to protect the crops.
Pretty amazing the damage hail can do.

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
Your right Patrick about FEMA, don't misunderstand homeowners are out cleaning up their mess, the govenor is the one looking for help, this is stimulating the local economy for a spurt of jobs, example if the Home owners insurance adjustor sees that my house or garage needs a roof, the bussiness will go to a fellow Sweptline truck enthusiast who also has a roofing bussiness, along with cutting down some of the limbs will go to another person my wife knows from her job, friends helping friends.
Just like 68Dodge1, and Yellow71 has helped me tremoundously to get the 68 going, with help on the truck and driveline, that will become my daily driver, along with the Willy's.
I'm very, very happy we chose this house, it was built in 1957 and remodeled in 2007, but the roof is very strong and has 1x6 slats, instead of the press wood seen in the newer houses.
This storm has impressed upon me the fact that I need to add covered parking outside of the garage, which I'll try to get done before winter
JimsRatRod the Cruise is September 26th not far from where you live, I posted update, but email me at kingmopar440@comcast.net so I can add you to the list and I'll get you a flyer
Thanks for everyone's concern, I only become depressed when I look at the 70 and think of all the hard work that got damaged, but its no where near the damage that the wife's car got, and the 54 Willys was sitting on the North side of her car, the same direction the storm came from, and I have seen almost no damage

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
I am real sorry to hear that Robin. Three of my cars gpt damaged. The sons Cherokee got it the worst, it was parked on the curb so damage on the hood, roof and whole right side. Wife's van got hood and roof damage. My CJ got very light damage on the hood, had the top off and it was under cover, good thing because the storm probably would have blown the sunroofs out. The '66 Galaxie was also on the curb but is not really showing any damage, must be that good old steel. Got really lucky my '62 parks in the garage and my wife hasn't yelled at me for that yet.

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
62dodgedog, yours sounds worse, did all your cars have comprehensive coverage?
I heard your neighbor Scott got hit bad also, I'm waiting on the adjustor to check the roof of the house and garage, so I can finish the clean up, how are you doing?

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
Robin, I have a good roofer if you need one. I own a insurance restoration company and am a Independent Insurance Adjuster myself.
Currently my roof is covered with blue tarps. Damn wind.

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
The only car checked so far by the insurance company was wife's car and he said it will be considered totaled. Can't get the adjuster here for the roof and with all the new rain am really worring about water damage, and you?

Re: Colorado Hail Storm in July?
The car, is total loss, and wife and I spent saturday buying a Jeep Patriot, so she now has a 2009 Jeep Patriot, the house the adjuster is coming on tuesday to see the roof on house and garage, by looking at it I don't see damage, but I work on vehicles not houses, it has rained again already, no leaks that I know of.
