if were gonna educate on the Donk thing we need to be correct. Donk is a Body style, not a customizing style

Donk, is a '71 to '77 Impala, Caprice, and similar GM bodies

a Box is a '78 to 87 Impala, Caprice, and similar GM bodies

and lastly the Bubble is the '88 to '96 Caprice & Impala, and similar GM bodies

i know they have nicknames, but i don't recall the names for the Fords and others that they are using.

it does seem kind of orwellian and its not surprising that it scares people (me included).

at the same time, motorsports/automotive hotrodding history is replete with corporate advertising attached to vehicles.

maybe its the bar code thing that really freaks me out.

personally, if i was going to put suicide doors on my truck i would probably keep the chrome or at least fill in the holes.

i guess we'll just have to wait for the tampax/rotorooter/hemorrhoid suppository versions to come out :dance

.Now that last sentence is funny !!! :Thumbsup

I think that in a strange way, this is connected to the NASCAR theme. Sounds crazy, but hear me out. I see a LOT of poeple of the same demographics that love to wear the Nascar coats. They like them because of the bold flashy colors and designs. One lady that I work with wears a M&M's jacket, and a guy I work with has a VIAGRA jacket. these are all nascar sponsors and their team designs. I personally know that neither one of them are auto racing fans.
A few years ago, my wife ordered me a Dodge racing jacket that is black with red and white embroidery all over it. At first, I didn't want to wear it because I'm just not a flashy dresser, But I got used to it and wore it all the time. When ever I'd go through a drive through window at the burger place, I'd almost always get compliments on that coat.

I'm certain that all of that was done against the truck's will.

A terrible thing.

Well it seems people disagree on the definition of "donk". It was originally as you described but words can change definition when people start using them in other ways. There is a magazine called DONK that covers cars built in the style of the one that started this thread. It is not a 71-77 Impala magazine. Also a 77 Impala is the same body style as a 78 so it would be 71-76. I guess it depends on who you ask as to what it means. I've also heard the name Donk is short for badonkadonk because many of these cars had large trunks and sat higher in back but I like the donkey definition better.

Yeah, I'm with you guys. And though I kinda like the A-Team for this job, I think the above group would have better results. Besides, since the A-Team didn't drive an "A" van (Dodge A van that is), why would these Chebby guys come rescue a Dodge from such a travesty? :joker But the real problem is that you can't rescue someone from having bad taste.

My company just announced that they are gonna start leasing out the sides of our trailers to Proctor and Gamble. 28 foot long bilboards. :banghead The company video we saw at the driver's meeting about it said that P&G is going this route because of electronic countermeasures that reduce people watching their ads on TV. Well,.. at least they know we're tired of all the commercials. But when the night comes when I hook up to the Massengail trailer followed by the Hefty trailer,.. I'm not even going to turn the CB on.

I've probably seen more Sweptlines on The A-Team than any other show other than the beginning of the movie In the Heat of the Night. None of them got destroyed either.

DONK .. MMM NOT MY CUP OF TEA... MEANS ...Hi-Risers are a type of highly customized automobile, typically an inexpensive American-built sedan modified by significantly increasing the ground clearance and adding large-diameter wheels with low-profile tires. Depending on the model and build year, autos customized in this manner can be labeled "donk," "box," or "bubble."

Hi-risers originally grew out of the Dirty South drug, pimp and hip hop subculture but the trend has spread across the United States. Vehicles customized in the hi-riser style are distinguished by their oversized (even disproportionate) rims, ranging from 22" to 30" or more in diameter, as well as fanciful custom paint-jobs and expensive audio equipment. Suspension modifications similar to those employed on lifted pickup trucks are made to give adequate clearance for the large rims. Often the suspension is modified so the front end sits slightly higher than the rear end... :banghead :banghead :banghead

This is just a phase. In the early sixties it was the cowboy "rake" (raised front lowered rear), that started on the drag strip...In the 70's just the opposite, cars with air shocks jacking up the rear like a kangaroo, with 50's on the back & skinny's on the front......Then Bigfoot started the monster truck theme....Along comes low riders & lil pick-ups with dancing hydraulic beds......Fast & Furious gets the ricers a rollin'......Now DONK, I don't like the wheel part but can appreciate the work that goes into the paint jobs. Better than that shrink-wrap decal B.S. like Geico & others are using for advertisements.

I don't particularly care for DONKS but would rather see them than more boring silver/grey/beige "nothing" cars that the feds want us all in. Many fought in the past for citizens of this nation to have the privledge to customize, even screw up, their rides beyond recognition. :usa

The biggest turn off for me is those that have a "system" that basically rattles the body panels to pieces trying to simulate "music". Same for the exhaust on those ricers.

I keep thinking of the Rolling Stones when I see this truck.

No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black

I can appreciate all the work, especially the doors, but the free ads are stupid IMO.
I think it would look cooler on 38 inch mudders and painted flat black, Kinda like the poptop Ramchargers
but would need to have a soft top here in the NW :2cents

I'm sure others were thinking this too... it really looks like a giant hot wheels truck. The ones with ads on them.
