broke it!
Well, looks like I either F'd up assembling the motor or I had some fatigued parts. I guess I'll be bowing out of any cruising for a while. This gives me an excuse to go ahead with the mods I had planned and maybe I didn't do too much damage (fingers crossed). Well, that's racin'!

Re: broke it!
Well, I'd just finished up the kingpins and greased up the front end (what a difference!) and decided to go fishin'. Ran fine out to the pond and on the way back decided to take it for a cruise to get a cherry lime-aid. The gas gauge was registering low, but I knew I had enough to get to a pump. Half way there, it started running REAL bad... almost died making a turn. I figured, "must be out of gas", so I made it down to the pump and filled up. Got in and started it... still running crappy. I decided to limp it home and check things out... Put a vacuum gauge on there and it wasn't pulling much vacuum, did a compression check on all the cylinders, all fine. WTF? Ok, maybe some garbage in the carb since I was sucking the bottom of the tank? Took it for a test run around the block and it seemed to be a little better, pulled out on the road and gave her some gas... about a mile later: POP, POP, POP... clug... (Figures. As soon as I loan out my tow bar, I need the darn thing. Good thing it was only a mile and my wife didn't mind steering the beast back with just a tow strap.) It would fire back up, so i pulled the distributor cap and cranked it over and it wasn't rotating, pulled the distributor and took a gander down in the hole...
. I could see the chewed up cam gear and intermediate shaft gear. I have yet to tear it down and find out the prob, but I need to take a breather and figure things out.
Robin... what's this about a 413?
Hotrat62, no, that's just a lowered stock suspension (leafs).

Re: broke it!
I'll get your tow bar back this weekend
Yes their is a running 413/727 in Longmount that was taken out of a 63 300, for a 225/auto for fuel economy. It was offered to me to put in the 68, I don't need 2 Big Blocks, so I'll email and see if its still available, I even have a driveshaft that could be altered to make the swap?

Unless it was changed, the 1963 to 1965 Torque-Flight of all the the versions ( small block/big block or the Trucks Load-Flite version ) was still with the Push Button Controls.

Re: broke it!
I have a big block trans, but if the price is right on the engine...
I am going to take this opportunity to do as many mods as possible, so i'm not going to be cruising this summer like I had planned.

Re: broke it!
Mitzi, I sent you an email a while back... the bed sides are already off... yours for $50 a side and I can deliver or you can pick 'em up, but I need them out of the way.
