1968 Dodge D100 Door TAG decode
I just picked up this truck last night and was trying to decode the TAG I found on the driver side door jam (see pic), any info? Also, is there other TAGs on the tuck? This is my first Dodge Truck so this is all new to me. The Ohio title was clean and clear, no issued at the DMV.
Thanks in advance for any info
Jack

Some dumbass acetoned all the lettering paint off the tag. Enter the SN at the registry to decode, then look at pics of the tag that haven't been destroyed to know what everything is.

Originally a Slant 6 / A745 3spd column shift with a 3.55 axle gear ratio.

THANKS!!!!sledgehammer wrote:Looks great! What size wheels?
22", but I don't care for them so I will be changing to steel wheels over the winter, I hope I can sell these. Previous owner has a little over $2K into these wheels!
Truck is nice, has power seats and all the factory gauges work as well as the heat, windshield wipers and Keenwood stereo. Super nice 318 small block, runs strong and drives smooth. Chassie is powder coated black, paint and body nice, but not perfect. Has upgraded power disc breaks and power steering.

Nice truck! I'm not a big fan of the oversized wheel look, but those really cool. You should be able to sell them for at least half his 'investment'.
And boy, that's some plush carpet!

I too have a 68. I have been trying to figure out what rear end is in the truck. Can someone please help me out? I'm new to the sweptline family. The axle code says "spec" "RR/axle 8". Any ideas?

There should be another box on your VIN tag indicating the gear ratio.
Do you see a "3.55", "3.91", "3.23" anywhere on the tag?

It sounds like it was a special order. At the bottom of the tag where it lists SERT items, what does it say? The box labeled rear axle should have the ratio. The box next to it marked make should have Chry on a D100. The box next to that that is marked model should be RA36 or RF36 on a D100.

If it is a special order, with a SERT listed, those boxes would have "SPEC" marked in them and the additional info listed in the SERT sectionsoopernaut wrote:Jake68 wrote:I too have a 68. It's probably an 8 3/4 Chrysler with something non standard. There is no 8" Chrysler. You could post a picture of the differential to be sure.

Re: 1968 Dodge D100 Door TAG decode
From my understanding, unless it has been changed, there was 1 diff for D100. 8 3/4, most common gears that I have seen are 3.91 and 3.55, with 4.10 in the mix as well.

Yes, but with a SERT and SPEC on the tag from the factory, it is not stock and could be anything.marklein wrote:From my understanding, unless it has been changed, there was 1 diff for D100. 8 3/4, most common gears that I have seen are 3.91 and 3.55, with 4.10 in the mix as well.

Re: 1968 Dodge D100 Door TAG decode
Sometimes they have all the info in the boxes and have a SERT for RA Lmtd (limited slip) and I recall one with a SERT for Hypoid (gears).PwrWgnDrvr wrote: If it is a special order, with a SERT listed, those boxes would have "SPEC" marked in them and the additional info listed in the SERT section
