Cab swap/cummins

Post by petespowerwagons »

I have a project I'd like to do, a 67 dodge 1/2 ton 2wd camper special (46000 original miles) (has 318 and 4 speed manual) that i'd like to put the cab on my 91 dodge 3/4 ton w/ cummins intercooled, w/ 5 speed manual jetrag. Seems to me its alot simpler to put the cab on the newer frame with the motor and drive train already in it. Also way easier to get parts! can anybody tell me if this is the best way to go? And if so has anyone done this and know what my biggest battle is gonna be? i also have 68 and 71 power wagons, but the cabs would take alot more to restore then my 67.
just from looking measuring, it looks like i'll need to either cut into the fender and build a box for air filter, or run it into bed somehow. (which i'd rather put it up front because i want a flatbed on it) Also, looks like i'll need to cut into the firewall a little for engine room. Any advice??? thanks

Yes that's a good point. I have thought about that to, thanks for the input. The reason i figured I'd have to use that one is its been hard to find any cabs in good enough shape worth using, without completely restoring them. I wish i had several thousands of dollars i could throw at it, but at this point i don't. I will probably have to drive it the way it is until i get a lot more money to put into it. I just wanted to here some other point of views to see if it was possible without making a bigger headache for myself.

To do what you've mentioned above will require "thousands"..... trust me.
Seeing as though you are aware you don't have that type of coin at this time, I'd
say you've chosen the next best thing..... to get in it and just enjoy it as a low
mile original truck. Good thinking.... :Thumbsup
