clutch pedal problem

Post by stakebed »

So my clutch pedal doesn't come back out all the way anymore. It stops a couple inched short. I checked the slave cylinder and it appears to have been rebuilt by the previous owner. Haven't checked the master yet. Any suggestions as to what's goin on? Its a 60 with the poly. It does still engage and disengage the clutch. Thanks in advance

When you say "appears to have been rebuilt".... what are
you basing this on? You should check a Factory Service Manual
[FSM] for the proper run-out on the clutch fork and adjust the
threaded rod at the slave cylinder accordingly. If the system
is not currently leaking at the slave, in the line or at the master
cylinder [look under your floor mat too], you might want to re-bleed
the system to ensure that there's no air trapped in the system.
Also, you might want to make sure the pedal shaft is lubed
and the pedals are moving freely on it. Sometimes, the shaft
can tighten up and bind the pedals slightly. :2cents

When I rebuilt my clutch master it was acting like your clutch is acting until it was properly bled. Then it firmed up and snapped right back up how it should.

Don't forget to clean and lube the clutch pivot shaft. That really helped on mine. :2cents :2cents Mike

Ok did check pedal pivot point.... not sticking there will lube it this evening though. The master makes a suction type noise when i pull the pedal out the rest of the way.it has no visible leaks. Did cind out i have a windsheild gasket leak though. I have only put 48 miles on this truck since i got it last july.would it take that long to show the air bubbles and need to be bled? My hose is a straight shot with no loops. Thanks guys

Ok its gonna be pretty obvious that i am definately not used to older rigs pretty soon. So i checked the fluid level and it was good and looked like new.oh well i thought.i will just do the lube on the oedal pivot area.there it was the whole time, the rubber bump stop had pretty much disentegrated allowing the extra play. Dur be dur guess i shouldn't assume the worst every time something goes wrong. Thanks for your guys help.

  It's like my nephew said when my computer didn't work. "Before you tear it apart, make sure it's plugged in!" These old trucks can be frustrating but they sure are fun! Mike
