Even if you don't know anything about your truck, pick up a shop manual (a real shop manual, not a Chilton's or Hayne's) and read a bit. I have a D200 Camper Special project truck ('66 cab with a mix of '67 and '68 parts) and a '67 D200 Camper Special parts truck. There are a few odd things about the D200s. Rodger will probably come around and give you the skinny on the Camper Specials. While I'm just an shadetree guy, I'll tell you what I think I know.

The D200 Camper Special's are 3/4 ton pick-up built for the old slide in campers. The suspension is beefy (read stiff). If you have a spare 1000 pounds of weight, put it in the back and the ride will improve... though I'd hold off until you get the brakes figured out.

If someone swapped in a 318LA, it's hard to know what else you have that's stock and what you have that's different. The good news... the brakes should be pretty straightforward. If you want helping diagnosing the problem, it will help if you provide more information. "No stopping power" doesn't tell us much. There are plenty of great, easy-to-follow guides to help you diagnose exactly what's going wrong. If you're going to get into doing the brake work yourself, you're going to need a few tools and you might want to read some of the threads to get a sense of how to pull the hubs, do adjustments, etc. Good luck.
