1964 D200 318 poly rocker arm removal
1964 D200 318 poly rocker arm removal
Hi! I need to change the valve stem seals, and I don't know how to remove the rocker arm assembly on this engine. It is different than what I have seen on other engines. Can anybody help?

Assuming you have the solid lifters, I would back off on the adjustment, disengage the rocker and slide it over to allow access to the valves.
Not sure this will work very well, if at all, but it's is worth a shot. I think there is a tool to compress the springs that would use the shaft as a fulcrum. You might need 2 - 1 for intake and 1 for exhaust.
I tore my heads completely apart to put in new guides, valves etc. To remove the shaft that the rocker arms rotate on, you have to pull head bolts and would likely need a head gasket.
Replacing the seals sounds like a very hopeful solution with a questionable chance of success. With the no lead gas, there have been many reports of severe seat erosion; I've seen it myself. My valve guides were worn out of spec so I had the (cast-in-head) guides reamed and bronze inserts installed. Along with hardened seats, a valve job, new valves, valve seals and springs.
Others may have had better luck.

I am in the same situation, need to replace the valve seals and not sure if I can do them with heads still installed....and if I can do it with heads installed is it with the rocker shaft removed or not?? Can I just back off the valve aduster and slide the rocker over?? If I have to remove the rocker shaft does it have to come out/slide out the front?? If so do the head bolts need to be removed?? Thanks, just looking for some help

I've not replaced valve seals on this particular engine, however, the big trick is keeping the valves from dropping into the cylinder after the spring retainers are off. I had an adapter screwed into the sparkplug hole and attached a hose off my compressor to pressureize the cylinder, keeping the valves tight to their seats. John
