Has anyone measured the 80's Chevy pickup frame against the 60's Dodges? I am going to go look at a cheap Chevy parts truck soon.
If I want to go lo, lo, lo with my Swepty, there are limited options if I want to buy drop spindles.

Not sure about the all the 80s, but late 70s and early 80s GM truck front suspension unbolts from the frame, so it wouldn't be too mean a trick to modify to a different frame. On the other hand, a K frame from a Mopar car might be just as easy to modify to an existing frame, and the torsion bars are adjsutable, and guessing from what I've seen it might get you as low or lower than the GM truck with stock components. Plus it would keep your stock Mopar wheel pattern. And save you from asking for forgiveness, at least on the suspension issue.

The only thing about this one that I know for sure is that the GM truck frame is narrower. It's like 4 inches narrower if memory serves. If you want to just graft on a front clip, the Dodge trucks from 72-93 are the same frame from about the middle of the cab to the back. Easy grafting.

Not true. There are drop spindles available for a Dakota, which would be a good frame choice, OR those same spindles work for an early IFS Ram.SUPRDUD wrote:If I want to go lo, lo, lo with my Swepty, there are limited options if I want to buy drop spindles.

If you want to go really low, it doesn't matter what make you use there is gonna be a lot of modification. Keep it Mopar!

I thought about the 73-87 Chevy front suspension setup because it just bolts too the frame. As mentioned above that frame will be narrower in the front so the parts cannot be added to a Sweptline frame. If you are planning on cutting and splicing the frame you can stick with all Mopar parts. You can get a 72-93 Dodge truck to lay on the ground if you desire. There are also other options besides the 72-93 trucks. Basically I don't see any advantage to using a GM truck clip.

Thanks for the link to that buildup!
I am running a 6BT Cummins so I want to stick with 8 bolt wheels. Air bags too.
I found a $200 85 Chivy parts truck to measure and play with. I can always use another box trailer.....
