The bridge is least ugly on weekends or holidays, but it is not a freeway on the SF side. U have to drive thru the city streets - peds, cars, trucks, bicycles, hills, stop signs and red lights.
LA is even worse than here. Google I-405 and I-5 LA images

If you plan to drive that truck in SF then maybe a new clutch hydralic system would be in order!

Yes, but I have scrapped the idea of driving it there. I'll pay for shipping all the way and instead get a rental. Just need to figure out the cost of rental cars, looks like we have to ask what it costs because I can not find prices on their websites.

Okay, I still think the Portland Swap Meet is worth a thought. How about renting a Dodge Challenger go west on 84, see the gorge and into Portland. Then south through the redwoods. If you haven't seen trees that big before they are awesome. Then do the coastline south to San Fran. Oh, Hood River, Oregon is a nice town to spend the night in. Parts of Nevada are like the moon. Dead, makes you wonder why someone would live there. All and all it sounds like a wonderful adventure. If you end up in Washington and need bailed out just give a call.

Yes, that that can also be an option. Have to talk things over with my wife. Not sure she is very eager to go parts hunting at a swapmeet but who knows

5k for a stock 2wd farm truck? F*ck, it better have a majority of the stuff on these lists already done to it.

For 5k it better be in good enough shape for me to drive it 1000 miles in the early spring

You're going to get a ton of opinions here, just go with what feels right.

Yes, persoanlly I want to see the truck in person first and then see what price I can get the owner to agree on. I hate it when people try to haggle by mail or text message. I'm currently trying to sell two of my old Mercedeses and I get tons of mails and messages (often anonymus) with "offers" or "bids" or even trades. Last night a got a "trade-offer" from someone that want to trade my 65 190 with a 97 Chrysler Voyager (the Austrian built ones with the Italian VM Diesel). The thing is that to make the Voyager legally my own I have to pay taxes at about 600$ where as the 190 cost me nothing to keep and will not cost the other guy anything to register in his name either.
"No thank you" is my reply to that
I just hope that I get to sell these two cars very soon as I need the money if I'm going to buy this truck.
