Hello there,
I'm working on a 68 d100 318 with 727 dash mounted shifter.
I'm trying to get my backup lights working. I'm making the assumption that the switch mounted to the shifter in the dash IS the back up light switch (pictured with left arrow). It has a purple and white wire going to male spades in a single connector (not pictured). Currently nothing is connected to this.
The manual shows the back up light switch has a orange wire coming in to it and black wire leaving and going to the back up lights. The truck has a orange wire hanging right next to it (pictured in right arrow), but it's a single wire with a single female terminal. Anyone have a photo of their switch?
Thank you!
Thomas
DASH shifter switch HELP!
Re: DASH shifter switch HELP!
Reverse sender is typically on the driver side of the transmission housing just forward of the tailshaft.

Re: DASH shifter switch HELP!
No it is not always on the automatic transmission. Depends on year.
My truck is younger than me.

I first would check to make sure switch operates in reverse position
. Then see if orange wire shows power or goes to rear of truck. Its a simple circuit to fix. Multimeter and a 12?24 V tester with polarity light is my tool box go to.

Re: DASH shifter switch HELP!
SOLVED AND FIXED.
The dash shifter uses a switch on the shifter itself (see picture in original post). The white wire gets hot in and the blue wire connects to backup light harness than runs to the rear. When placed in reverse the switch completes the circuit. Works great now. It is not on the transmission on mine (68 auto with dash shifter). Transmission has a one wire nss back to the starter relay. Thanks for the help.
