New life
I bought this pig 24 years ago. I put a used 440 in it at the time to replace the original 318 which was junk.
Jump ahead to 2021 and the used 440 is tired, leaking and burning oil and coolant. Time for a transplant.
I was given a 426 industrial a few years ago for free so why not?
Bought a complete rebuild kit from Clegg which included flat top pistons, cam, lifters, timing chain, bearings and all the gaskets. New rods from a supplier that I will never buy from again (the rods are great, other items are chinese garbage) a Pertronics distributor, electric dual fans, rebuilt 435, rebuilt 205, rebuilt Dana 44 front with powertrac, rebuilt Dana 60 rear with powertrac, new exhaust , and new driveshafts are on the way. WOW!!!
Also had the seat recovered and installed a rubber floormat. Ive never had a floormat, its amazing how quiet the truck is now.
Found a dash that had never been cut or drilled, which has a dashpad with one very small crack. And a headliner.
Still need to have some bungs welded on the exhaust to meter the A/F ratio for carb tuning but overall, running very nice and strong.
Dont toss those industrial engines, they have great potential.

Re: New life
Got any close up pics of the motor?
And why did you have to get new rods?
6 bolt crank or 8?

Re: New life
Bucky, Its a 6 bolt crank, standard, forged big block crank. I replaced the rods because I wanted to. Here is a link.
http://store.440source.com/Connecting-R ... /200-1132/
Very nice rods. According to the machinist, they were all very close in weight.
There were a few things that had to be done to the motor to make everything fit right.
Added 1" spacers between the water pump housing and block to make the pulleys line up.
Added 1/8" spacer behind the crank pulley, again to line up pulleys.
I used a Pertonics mechanical advance distributor. This is self-contained, no other parts needed. I did have to grind a small amount off the corner of the head to allow the distributor to fit. Pertronics did note this in the directions.
Made new alternator brackets out of 1/8" steel, again to line everything up. If you guys are still using the original style alternator, I highly recommend upgrading to something newer. Im using a Nippondenso from a Jeep. Constant 14+ volts even with everything on, and works with the original regulator.
Had new exhaust installed yesterday, with the pipes ran all the way to the rear bumper. Can hardly hear the truck running! Had the installer add bungs for O2 sensors so I can monitor the A/F ratio. Right now it is running a little on the rich side so a little carb tuning is in order. Proper tuning is next on the list, and then getting the bed lined. Still waiting on new driveshafts.
Here is a link to the O2 sensor kit. The sensor gauge is in one of the pictures, to the far right

And a couple more pictures.

Re: New life
Any idea (dyno wise) how those industrial heads stack up against the conventional BB wedge head?
I admire all the work you put into getting things to line up.

Re: New life
Thank you all! The radiator is out of a later Dodge truck, cant remember the year, but it fits like it was made for the truck. I did need to make some brackets to bolt it in.
As far as the heads, they have smaller valves then the standard BB heads. Seems like the exhaust valves are like 1.60ish. It runs well and pulls pretty hard. I certainly didnt build it for racing, just a work truck.

Re: New life
Well, the last of the parts came yesterday. These took about 6 weeks from the day I ordered them but it was well worth the wait. Very well packaged and almost pretty to look at.
No more vibrations!!

Re: New life
Cool truck
Were the original pistons in that 426 flat tops? Just curious.
