What the heck is this thing?
This was on my 71 383. Inline between coil and coil wire to distributor. Is it factory? What does it do?

Found out it's a spark master, coil spark booster.

I didn't notice a difference when it was on or off. I guess the only way to tell would be hooking it up to a meter

Re: What the heck is this thing?
throw it away! I got suckered into buying one of those things about 20 years ago and installed it on my cuda. it was supposed to increase the spark and give me more power and fuel economy. I could never tell any difference and it ended up shorting out and my car would not run. I pulled that thing off and plugged my coil wire back in without it and the car ran fine again.

Voodoo witch hokus pokus mumbo jumbo magical elixer. Buy one and get power and fly to the moon.
Used to be so much of that crap in the market place for vehicles. Remember some of the stuff in Popular Mechanics, Car magazines from back in the day. It was so enticing.
My truck is younger than me.

I probably wouldn't throw it out... but save it as a "vintage" automotive product from maybe... J.C. Whitney?? Stuff like that from the 50s on back is worth something to those "Petrolina" collectors. I mean... who'd a thought that the cardboard oil cans would be worth something???exline wrote:throw it away!

I'm going to add it to my collection of crap. I really don't think there is anything inside of it but just a long plug and socket and a funky Bakelite housing. It gave me a shock when the truck was running so I can imagine the juice it would drain and the power you lose keeping it on. Just another magic bean product.
