odd sweptline bed

Post by jagee94 »

I can't get a picture to load but I found what looks a little like a 69 sweptline bed, the taillights are 69 but and the tailgate looks correct but the side of the bed doesn't have the swept part of the bed line, it just is straight with a seam under it. Any one have any idea?
Thanks
James

With that seem running down the side you can tell somebody built that. They probably cut down a long bed.

They did have beds like that on South American built trucks.

Well I bought the bed at an auction, not knowing exactly what it was but I knew the taillights and tailgate would work on my truck. the more I look at it I want to find a short bed cab and chassis to put this bed on. Does the short bed sweptline and step side interchange, this may make my search a little easier?

Hmm definitely interesting, it's to straight a line for even a long bed. It even looks like the tail light extension lines up with the body line????
The stepside/utiline and sweptsides will fit same frame.

Definitely a South American bed, as they did not have the "swept" check on the side. Short beds swap across the board from '61 - '71, so if you have a short Utiline bed, you can swap this to your truck.

I highly doubt this is a South American bed. They didn't have a seem running down the side of the bed like this one. They didn't use the same taillights or tailgate as American/Canadian trucks. This looks homemade.

Do you know if it is actually the correct length for a short bed or is it a custom length?

The frames are not exactly the same for Utiline and Sweptline trucks. Mark's links show the frame modifications required to swap beds.

I agree. The Swept body line remains horizontal..... almost like a '67-'79 Ford box.
It would be good to see photos of the inside of this box. :idea :Thumbsup

I haven't had a chance to clean all the junk that was in it. I will post pics when I get it cleaned up. I was real happy to get 2 good taillights, a back bumper and a pretty good tailgate, it does look like the inside of the bed may be bad but the outside is in pretty good shape. it was pretty cheap and was well worth the cost even if I just use it for a neat trailer.

It has a wood bed floor, I have been real busy working on my 70 sweptline short bed. while I think it is real neat I think I might sell it I just like the lines on the sweptline , any suggestion's on a value. I have no idea. I would keep the good tailgate and bumper.

I wouldn't pay that much for a funky bed with no tailgate, nor even a whole trailer without a tailgate

Here is a Dodge in Peru. Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with you on the contour line.

Thanks for the comments, I think I will clean it up a little and ask around 250. If nothing else it is a neat trailer. I already have a long bed trailer or I would just keep it.
