Now we have to look at this in a logical way.
Question #1. Do I put the frame under my trucks body????
Answer: Now to put ones truck frame under one's truck body , The body must first levitate itself up into the air without any means or help to truly be a mystical experience. Then be gently lowered and attached at various points . :Thumbsup

Your question. Do I put a new frame on my body.
Answer: That would be rather pointless as having a frame on top of ones body would uncomfortable and would put your wheels, running gear , All the stuff that should be under your truck Quite frankly in the wrong spot. :banghead

Hope this helps.

If the current frame is rusted or bent and its a case of putting a "newer condition" 69 frame "on" the truck, u must first construct some sort of cargo rack that can support a load of that length above the cab. It would not be possible to load it on the bed and have it hang 8+ feet out the back. :pale

1972 - 1993 Lifestyle trucks make for good swap candidates, as their dimensions are VERY close to the '61 - '71 frames. The 1994 - up frames are quite a bit different, and there have been Swepty swaps to later frames, but you'll have to find them with our handy-dandy Search function. They're out there.

Putting a newer style frame under a sweptline is a monumental task. The rear requires you to make a false floor in the box as the area over the diff kicks up higher than the earlier truck. The rear of the cab needs to be channeled so that the cab will sit on the frame level, and then you need to channel the rad support so that it will sit low enough to match the cab. You may be able to put the sweptline body on top, but it will sit too high on the frame to look correct. My advice is put a different suspension setup under the front to get better handling and use the original frame. I did it, and would not do it again. Just my 02.

As mentioned, there is no swap without doing serious modifications. It all depends on your skills of fabrication, budget and the reason for doing the swap.

Here is my truck with a 77 D150 front frame section spliced under the cab. The cab and bed were not cut or channeled.

This is probably the better or most corporate way to do it, but it is not a one for one swap. There are a ton of modifications that need to be done as well.

There have been several full frame swaps and I don't recall anybody channeling the cab besides Swptln.
I meant to say Marklein, not Swptln.

There was a guy in Illinois who used the whole frame but modified the kick up on the frame so he wouldn't have to cut the bed. There was also a Utiline truck that used the newer Utiline bed without any frame modifications.

There aren't any real in depth 94 and up frame swaps here. Some have been done and it seems that some here were looking into them.

The offsets over the rear axle is higher on the 72-93 frames, so if you were to try to use the whole frame the only way to get the body and cab to fit right, you will either have to raise the cab or channel the bed floor. There is no other way.
I did the same as you, only with a 91. The reason I cut and "Z'd" the frame under the cab is for that reason, if I tried using the whole frame my bed and cab would not fit right or look pretty goofy.

It might be possible to do the swap without modifying the cab, but not without modifying the bed floor. I did mine the way I did so that the body would be low enough on the frame so I wouldn't have to drop the suspension to get the truck low enough for my liking. I did that, as I am satisfied with the height of the finished product, the built in rake is a result of dropping the body over the frame. My bed floor was rusted bad and destroyed anyway, so making it a false floor wasn't a problem anyway. When I started building my truck in the mid 90's, there weren't the options for front end swaps that we have now. If there had been, I may have taken a different route, but I used what I could get my hands on at the time. I have looked at the 1st gen Durango as a possible donor for a frame swap. There is very little kick up over the rear axle and it is relatively straight. It may well work for a swap to a swb as it is only 1 " longer.

I am working on the same project. I'm putting a 1965 SWB 2 wd on a 1982 SWB 4WD frame. I will cut out the floor to get the height where I like it, then set the body and ft end on relocated frame mounts. Ill try to post some picks. I just figured how to post after months of trying on and off.
I love the site and all he help everyone shares. Thanks
