I just hope that this won't drive up the prices on our trucks. Shows like Barrett Jackson have priced the mopar cars out of most regular people. Fools see things like this on TV, then think every rusted out pile they have is worth lots of money. Gone are the days of the $300 swepty?

I can't wait for the episode tonight to see this thing finished. I think they are going to lose their @#% on this thing, mostly due to engine choice. Suspension, axles from something else is one thing, but a Chevy motor in a dodge makes me feel sick. I understand the easy cheap thing, but how much more to get a hemi/545? Maybe a thousand more? Would have been well worth it. Still love the show and look forward to it every week.

I don't pay for television so I've never seen the show. The build sounds similar to what I was going to do with my Scout, except it was going to be an AMC Pacer suspension. I was trying to find a way to make it work but found a S Blazer with the 5.3 already in it. I knew I'd be far ahead going that route and not have to piece together every part to make what I wanted. The S Blazer has the same wheelbase and I've already seen Scouts on Blazer frames so it isn't new territory.

I always wanted my own thing and never cared what everyone else thinks is right or wrong. I still probably wouldn't put an LS in a Dodge, but for a modern daily driver I would put them at the top of my engine list.

Didn't look bad when finished but maybe it's just me but the numbers they had on that truck just seemed inflated. It's a tv show, just skeptical of the whole deal the way it went down. I'm thinking it's more of a hey you build my truck I'll build your office type deal up front. "$50,000" for that truck though, not me. - Kyle

$50K...yeah, sure. Let's look at what "Dick" got for the trade - a designer office full of recycled stuff, junk, you name it. Very cool, but there isn't a lot of money in the items themselves. It's the labor to do the tearout, rebuild and set all that stuff in his office. And the truck? It was $750 for the roller, another $2,500 for the engine, $350 for the crossmember, maybe $2K in the rest of the parts, $1,250 in the seat, a grand to clearcoat the rusty "patina" nonsense, and three large for the "rims" and rubberband tires.. Let's be generous and say twelve thousand dollars. The guy doing the office remodel probably had the same in his stuff and materials. So, in that vein, a straight-trade was probably a good deal. BUT, did either really have $30K - $40K in labor costs??? Hell NO...but then, seeing as how much wasted time they spend goofing off and charging as labor, I'm not surprised A$$ Monkey Garage thinks he has $50K in that Dodge.

I am new here. I have by no means have the wright to speak up about anything sweptline. To be honest I loved the truck. I do like patina . It is in in a huge way wright now. Plan on leaving my crew cab in patina. I also plan on doing a mustang 2 front end. I plan on putting a 98 explorer 8.8 rear end under her. Same bolt pattern disc all around. I do want to keep my slant six.Plan to mate it to a tremc five speed.
I can see why they did a sbc motor. Cheaper to get one from a junk yard and drop in , than it would be to tear down machine and parts to rebuild , the la.
I like the stock wheels painted with wide whites . but I do like the new big wheels as well. I do not like chrome , but do like a lot of the black wheels. Plan to find a set of staggered ones for my air force truck.
The $50 g is a stupid number and it was all rigged I am sure.
As for the hate a dodge talk , I watch the show it seems to be a running joke . They hate every car /truck that is brought in. No matter what it is , vete ,F body , mustang. Everything is junk when they bring it in. I was just happy to see them tig weld for the first time ever , and it was on the swepty !
The f40 did not get tig welded.
Please send all hate mail in the form of an IM. Thank you , and sorry if I made any one mad. I just do not think every truck should look the same.

Sorry, to value this truck at $50K is absurd, plain and simple. And, to clearcoat over rust and "patina" is just over the top of stupid choices! They went to the trouble of removing and painting the dashboard, right? They had the entire body removed and sent it to the painter for the clearcoat nonsense - how much more trouble is it to actually paint it??? Even if it's a "Hot Rod Flatz" matte-finish paint?

The truck is half-assed, sorry, gang! And over-valued by the builder by a factor of five. Problem is, how many Swepties are going to appear on CL, ebay, kijijijijijiji, and the Auto Trader that look like this, and the seller is going to want $10K for it, just because of this thing?

A couple things it seemed like that was the longest short box i'd ever seen. And I think the whole thing was set-up the purchase the build and the trade of office for truck. I think it was the other guys truck all along and they did the re-build for the show the trick was going to the guy all along. I think this show is probably the most scripted "reality" show on tv

Are you sure it is wide enough? It is around 60" between the wheel mounting surfaces. A Sweptline is a bit wider.

I want to run monster rear wheels . I might have to link it. I have allready put a 8.8 on my yj . So I guess I feel beter about going with some thing I know a little about. I hope to keep it sprung. I have had bags before . I chose to not unless I have to on this one.... I want to try to rebuild my slant six as well. I have never rebuilt any motor beyound air cooled. So this will be my first victum. I have not bought another8.8 , and will of course get out the old tape to see if it will be wide enought to get around the frame. Was very suprised to find a mustang 2 front kit for the truck.Still have no bought that either. got all my roacker panels and front floor boards . Still in the cutting welding stages with those. Sorry for the thread hi jack .

I am of the opinion that the truck LOOKED great!(except the wheels)

I'm sure it will be a nice daily driver, for the a$$jack that paid the "price" for it. :joker

I understand the front end swap, and the rear, just not sure I would go with Furd parts!!! Disc Brakes and a nice comfortable suspention? Ya, I could do that!!

The worst part for me was the Chebby engine. Sure it's a decent motor, but come on!!! Keep it a Mopar at least!

Not a huge fan of the show, and maybe even a little less now, but it was NICE to see a Swepty on the boob tube!! :clap

:2cents

As far as the trucks' looks go, I like the stance and the dash. The wheels really kill this truck, but I understand the need for "dubs" for some to completely kill the appearance of an otherwise decent-appearing truck.

OK, what would I do if I were building this same truck? The suspension would go one of four ways:

1) Stock leaf suspension, lowered three inches front and rear (front Sid's axle and rear 3" lowering blocks), with a Scarebird front disc brake kit; or

2) Mopar F/M-body front K-frame & torsion bars, and three-inch lowering blocks and/or reversed spring shackles for 2" more (probably would require frame notching); or

3) a complete Jaguar suspension IFS and IRS swap, providing about seven inches worth of lowering all around without a lot of cutting, and a great ride, to boot; or

4) Figure out a way to use Charger/300 front and rear suspension/axles for a pure Mopar custom install. I know that means everything to some here, but I'd use what works, no matter what it came out of, to start...EXCEPT the engine/transmission!...

For THAT, I'd use my '69 440 that I've had sitting on a stand for over ten years now.

My inputs about this and how I'd do it. So, what would YOU build???
