In short....YES, it seems that way. If you drive up to a random mopar guys house and he has 15 cars in his backyard....and they all seem to be well beyond restoration, nothing on them will be for sale since he/she is going to restore them all at some point

Im guilty of that, Just ask Jimmy he has seen some of my stash of junk, but not all of it. I think of it more as a addiction than hoarding.

I have never really hoarded my parts as some have always been for sale. Used my best stuff for my 66 and basically everything else is for sale. If I decide to sell my place I am not taking it along for the ride. You can't take it to the grave. Cemetery's :shame frown on old car part's :pale monuments.

I have my fair share of parts and parts trucks. I consider it a
"support system" for keeping my licensed Sweptlines on the
road. Shawn saw some of the stuff when he and his wife paid
a visit a while back. John from Tyler TX was able to see my
piles of parts when he rolled through back on St. Patricks day. :Thumbsup

It's that way here. You keep driving by a place and see a nice old piece of iron untouched. You finally ask the owner about it and they have all sorts of plans for it, it is NOT for sale. Then a few years go by, and a few more, and finally it's only worth scrap value. Sad. :pale Some people just can't let go. Should be sold and fixed up while there is still a decent vehicle to restore, or parts are useful. I remember a '71 Dart Swinger, and a '69 pickup I had my eye on for awhile. Both were great fixer-uppers, the Dart actually ran and drove. Sadly, they turned into moss covered rusted out hulks worthless now. :shame

I picked up a 66 D100 that sat for a lot of years at a farm. I would go in and talk to the old farmer and he would tell me his son wanted the poly from it to build a generator or something. Gave up on it till my neighbor called and asked if I was interested in a Dodge pick up. Said yes and it turned out to be the one I was after for years. Everyone died and the farm sold. Go haul it away. Been parting it out for 7 years .

Its their truck and they have every right to do with it as they please. No one else has any right to tell them what "should" or "shouldn't" be done with it.
Its an ugly slope when one starts impinging on another's rights.
Think about this:
All u guys who spend tons of money on "fixing up" your trucks "SHOULD" donate the money to charity instead, to help the poor and needy around the world. U dont need a fancy, pretty truck just to get from point A to point B.
How do u like it when someone tells YOU what to do?

I am just the opposite of you guys.... I couldn't wait to get rid of all the extra 70 parts I had. Ask Hobbcobble! I have just a 'few' things left over from when I fixed up my truck. Like... a couple starters, alternators, and a few bits like "coffee cans" of extra bolts. OH... I DO have an extra 3 spd. transmission and the 4:10 posi pumpkin (Needs repair) that was original to my truck. However, it all could fit in a couple boxes. OH... I forgot, I have a speedo hump pan left over...

That's why the Pickers/Scrappers WILL BE SHOT signs went up at our farm. People always trying to get the trucks, boats, VW and motorcycles "because they are just sitting there". Which they aren't, they DO get worked on, just not at a "catalog cookie cutter pseudo kustom pace"... Apparently some people can't stand that. The high school kids that I caught going over my 49 B1B, talking about "Oh man a Toyota or Nissan V8 (Lexus/Infinity) and transmission, leather buckets, and dubs would be killer on this" ended up with a .45 round ball through their already mangled fart can equipped Civic. They haven't been back... :thinking

I don't mind people stopping by and talking about the vehicles. They can go over them with a fine tooth comb, as long as they realize they are not for sale. Our alarm system could raise the dead...

I never told anyone what to do with their own vehicle. Nor do I spend tons of money driving around in pristine rigs. What I simply implied is that it's a waste to have a perfectly good vehicle and not have it get used. Is it not? Anyone else agree that it's a waste to have a perfectly good vehicle just sit and do nothing? My trucks are rusty, not fancy pretty show trucks. I work part time, and I barely can afford to put gas in either one. But they get USED. Years ago when I had a little money to spend, I politely asked the owners if they want to sell their unused vehicle. I never TOLD them what they should do with it. and by the way, I am poor and needy. Maybe you should donate to me! There's been plenty of times I've had to sell parts and such just to put food on the table. :banghead There are times when I have to borrow a few bucks for gas to pick up my kids at school. :pale What website do you think this is anyway? Farmers R Us? :shame I mean seriously, read my post. I never said anything you implied! Instead of people letting their rigs sit unused MAYBE sell them to someone who will use them. Then the money they received they can donate it to charity, or go by a turbo booger picker or whatever they want to buy! :salut

Yes u did, you're still saying it and u don't even realize it.
You said:
1. "some people just can't let go"
2. "Should be sold and fixed up"
3. "it's a waste to have a perfectly good vehicle and not have it get used"
4. "Instead of people letting their rigs sit unused MAYBE sell them to someone who will use them"
5. "the money they received they can donate it to charity, or go by a turbo booger picker or whatever they want to buy!"
All of the above is telling someone what to do, when it is not your place to do so and is a form of self-righteous arrogance.
This is not meant to bash u, but to precipitate deeper thinking about what we as people so often, easily and thoughtlessly say.
To each his own, live and let live.

Again, didn't tell anyone to do anything. I suggested it. Never told them. BIG difference.

Maybe some of these vehicles that are sitting are being used----as decorations. I enjoy going to salvage yards and looking at all the old vehicles but I don't want to drag them all home and fix them up to drive them. I'd rather see them sitting than disappearing completely. I wouldn't mind having a yard full of cars that never got driven and I'm already on my way to achieving that. I have a 61 grille hanging in my dining room. I don't ever plan on using it on a truck but it is being used. I look at it everyday.
