Maybe they are "rare today", but ALL were rust free when they left the factory.
That is the difference between rare/scarce.

Ed, go to the Goodguys show in Puyallup the next time it comes around. There is a dark blue (can't remember the year) factory Hemi truck that shows up towing his color matched Hemi race cars. I posted about it years ago when I lived out there. Can't remember all the details these days. I do know he had the factory custom order papers for it still, a one of one. 426 Street Hemi instead of a wedge engine.

My dream Swepty? W300 short Ute with a stock 251 L6.

Well, I think it depends.

It could be the ONLY one in existence, but if no one wants it, it is worth next to nothing. Supply and demand, boys and girls.

Now, back to the OP question: For me, the ideal truck would be a '67 W100 SWB CSS with a big block, regular cab, 4-speed, 4.10 gears, preferably blue, orange, or red. If I could find that combo, I'd be all over it.

Next would be a '68 W200 LWB Crew Cab, same options as above.

Or would the most desirable be the truck...truck the 6 cyl 3 spd Utiline that a guy bought to go fishing, the 318 4 spd Sweptline that a farmer bought to haul his stuff to market and mauure to the spreader. Trucks in general during this period were bought for utility not pleasure. Just a thought....it appears that there is something for everyone.

I didn't have time to finish my last post! so... it depends because...

The scarcity of an item always has a role in the formation of demand because supply (scarcity) comes first. Ya can't have demand if the thing or idea doesn't exist first. Once demand generally is possible by the thing (truck) coming into existence and is further established by whatever other reasons the buyer may have, scarcity being one of these reasons. For example, plenty of cars out there are in demand primarily because they are cars, and secondarily because of their low production numbers (scarce). That's my tak at least :withstupid :withstupid :withstupid

I should have been more specific when asking my question. I didn't figure my economics would get picked apart! :thinking :thinking :thinking

I guess I'm curious as to what most people view as the most valuable sweptline!

Most people don't even know what a sweptline is.

Mine is the most valuable to me because Dad ordered it new and I was with him when he picked it up and I was 19 years young. :salut :Thumbsup :Thumbsup

so far the highest i have seen a sweptline truck of any pedigree go for is $25K (not including customs and hot-rods like the Deeds truck - i don't track those).

it was a 1967 D100 CSS short bed Sweptline with a 383 auto. it was a nuts and bolts resto done to the nth degree. the new owner could not be happier with a truck done as nicely as that one.

i have seen others sell in that range but those were private sales or are still being sorted out.

the CSS/HPP (or plain ol HPP like mine) trucks are probably the most desirable, rarest, scarcest trucks out there and they can be purchased anywhere from $5000 to $10,000 in pretty sad shape.

they rarely show up for sale and there is usually a buyer for a truck that runs and drives, has a clear title, and bonus points for an original engine.

now, i have yet to see a finished, fully restored 426 powered truck pop up on the market but i know of one buyer who would pay dearly for a completely restored 64 or early 65 four-headlight HPP truck (the CSS package adds desirability to the truck but the real value-add is the HPP)

i remember when you brought this up years ago. it is shame that it has not surfaced. if this truck still exists and is in fact a verifiable HEMI i know a couple people who would gladly seed the current owner's retirement plan for that truck as well as pay a finders fee for anyone who connects them to the owner and a sale takes place.

thanks Doug....as for being most sought after that is a matter of a majority opinion, and actual recent sales figures.

I will toss my truck in the ring for most rare Sweptline, as I have yet to find another factory Perkins powered W300 anywhere, then figure in the other rare stuff hanging on it.

I am grateful to have sold the truck, but managed to keep it. The buyer was Jesse James.....
Payupsucker Productions/Promotions seeks out unusual stuff. The sales price 5 years ago was $17,500.00

Those 413-426 HPP trucks have to be near the top of the list for most sought after. I dont believe mine could be considered that sought after because not many folks realize that one was ever built....Vintage Power Wagons did not even believe me when I told them what I had.......

i think alot of people want your truck including myself. considering your truck is techincally the 1st dodge crewcab diesel that i have knowledge of, was the pioneer for the modern Dodge light duty truck.

Good question, I've never tried to put any of mine in. I may have to grab some info off a truck and give it a try

Any Fargo PW300s made? That would be pretty sick. What about HPP/CSS Fargos... any of those out there?
