69 Adventurer SWB

Post by Commando66 »

I'm looking at a 69 Adventurer SWB that's got quite a few options. It's in pretty nice shape, but has been sitting for a few years. It's got factory AC, power steering, bucket seats, carpet, door panels, clock and a dealer installed fiberglass Tonneau. I am wondering how much it might be worth and how hard it is to find parts for the AC system and power steering.

Rust is going to determine a huge amount.

Power steering is a PITA as far as I know to work with.

AC you may be better of retro-fitting a modern style compressor. :2cents

Sounds like it could be a nice truck. However seeing that its been sitting for a while might be a problem. I'd like to see a photo of the "dealer installed fiberglass Tonneau".

It's absolutely rust free, 91,000 miles and not too much to fix.

If there isn't much rust damage in the "usual" locations such as floor boards, rocker
panels, cowl area, cab mounts, roof drip channel, etc., that truck should be worth at
least $3500-$4000+ in my opinion. If it is a 383/727 set up, that's all the better! Very
nice looking Adventurer.

Looks sweet but remember that John and I are used to the East Coast stuff. The west coast guys may have a slightly lower opinion. If you're talking "offer" numbers and not "what should I pay" than obviously start lower.

Correction Shawn..... we're used to looking at "what's left" of East Coast stuff.
Good points though.... Folks in Sweptline-Friendly climates have a lot more decent trucks
to choose from and not quite as high of an "opinion" with regards to pricing.

Back to other questions posted.....
The power-assist systems these trucks were offered
with were, in my opinion, "marginal".... or "decent".
They are known for "touchy" handling and leaking
hoses. Some have completely overhauled their systems
with success..... so it isn't impossible to end up with
a properly working PS truck. One could just as easily
convert the truck to manual steering and get along fine. :2cents
Others can probably chime in on what's needed to R&R
the A/C on these trucks. None of mine have that option.

Thanks for the replies. I think one of the PS hoses is swelled or crimped because it steers fine one direction but not the other. Your estimates are in line with what I would pay. On the west coast we are pretty spoiled with the number of usable trucks, but this is probably the nicest condition truck that I have seen.

That looks really nice. The PS is not a great system, however if it only required a few small repairs it would be nice to keep. It is also super easy to pull it off and just put manual steering on it if necessary. The steering box is the same, you would only need a manual steering draglink.

You would need a manual steering pitman arm too. :Thumbsup The
axle shims would need to be removed from between the leaf springs
and axle if manual steering was chosen. :study :2cents :Thumbsup

Well, I finally brought the truck home today. I couldn't have found a better truck. It came with some great paper work including the original purchase order. The truck cost $3638.88 when it was ordered on 11-19-68. It was bought in Santa Monica, Ca where it stayed until about 1983. Got to wash it tonight, but ran out of light to dig into it. Do trucks have build sheets like the cars?
