I have been using the test light trick to avoid further damaging my electrical system. I will be disconnecting the wires going from my starter relay to my starter all together tomorrow for they are in need of replacing. I'll let you know what happens.

Hope you figure it out, Did you try another alternator? The two field one's are cheap, And I know I said already but that was the problem with my '73. It was grounded out internally. The truck actually died right there when it popped and we couldn't figure out why there was no power to anything, but when the alternator went, it fried everything.

I went ahead and had the alternator tested. It was bad. I am still having the same issue. I havent had much time to mess with it lately. Gonna replace the wires going from the starter relay to the starter this weekend as well as reconfirm all of the grounds in the truck. Ill keep everyone posted.

As always thanks for the help.

I replaced the switch to starter wires yesterday with no change. I'm frusterated and out of ideas.

If you don't have a good repair shop that can assist you in diagnosing this issue, you
might want to give thought to an aftermarket wiring harness. :idea :2cents

I have decided to let the truck sit until I have to opportunity to have it fixed. Then I will likely sell it.

Here is an idea you can try. I have done this when I haven't been able to find a short. Disconnect the bulkhead connectors from the cab wiring so the engine compartment is isolated from the rest of the truck. Hook up the battery and watch for smoke from the melting wires. If it is shorted to ground you will find it. If nothing is found repeat with a friend to watch under the dash. Yes it may melt alot of wires but sometimes its a risk worth taking.

Did you ever find the culprit? I have the exact same problem but mine is intermittent and i've done the same testing/diagnosing mentioned here but still happening. I'm stumped too!

wow... some pretty crazy ideas.. I don't think burning the truck down would be a good solution. I think you have a wire hooked up wrong. The dodge harness sucks.. I've completely changed mine to a more simpler common sense style (GM - alternator and distributor) low and behold.. no more wiring problems. I would do this regardless of this issue, but it would probably fix it or bring you a long the issue.

Is the union where it's sparking? I would disconnect one wire at a time until it stops.. Is it key on ? or just in start position that it sparks? I've had the signal wire for the starter hit the main union on my 72 and it spark like that.
