Quadrajet tuning advice.

Howdy, I have one of these on my 360 W200. Sits on an Edelbrock manifold.
How do I adjust air/fuel on this. Is it the two screws equadistant apart on the front of the carb.?
Truck came from the Oregon coast and now lives @ 6K feet. Pretty much runs like crap, sputters
spits etc. Truck has the perlux ignitor and matching coil, how do I get this carb back to 'zero'
and adjust out from there. Screw the front two screws all the way in, and then how many flats (or turns)
out for a baseline.?
It seems pretty grungy on the inside, certainly not 'new', might end up putting a kit into it if all else fails.

The two screws on the front are your idle mixture screws and won't help with anything beside idle characteristics. Since a Quadrajet is a GM carb, you might have better luck searching on Chevy sites or post up more of the problems you are having and we'll try and help

Book by a Pontiac Guy I know named Cliff Ruggles.....

He forgot more about Q-Jets in the last 5 minutes than I will ever hope to know.

360 equipt trucks came from the factory with Q-jet carbs in the mid 80's.

usuly all the way in and out 1 1/2 to 2 turns might be acl pump timing too or stuck power plunger with the metering rods

yeah, that nickname and thermo-bog are names made up by those who dont/wont take the time to understand the carb well enough to tune one.

you can get a range of accelerator pump cams for those as well.

Actually both of those carbs are very good IF you set them up properly. I have had both run very well and it comes down to understanding how they work and then set them up step by step according to the book before you even think of modifying them. Unless you really know what you are doing. JMHO and experience.

that may be true, but a holley is so much simpler and easier to tune. my
