Drum Style Parking Brake Cable
Drum Style Parking Brake Cable
Need some advice here. My parking brake cable frayed and broke at the parking brake, and doesn't really look repairable. It's on my 1963 D100, which has the drum-style parking brake mounted on the back of the transmission. The auto parts store has a "left" and "right" cable listed for my application, neither of which is even close the the correct length. Any ideas where I could find one of those? Thanks!

It sounds like your parts store is trying to sell you thesamandw wrote:Need some advice here. My parking brake cable frayed and broke at the parking brake, and doesn't really look repairable. cables that are used on a later axle which pass through
the backing plates. Something you can let us all know
is the type of tranny you're running. This makes a
difference in the e-brake cable. You can post an ad
in the Parts Wanted section and I'm pretty sure you
will be able to locate a nice used one.

Good idea! I believe it's the A745 or A903. It's a three-on-the-tree, and paired with a slant-6. Originally a forest service truck, the best I can tell.

Figured out the solution. All that's wrong with the cable is that it's broken. I ordered a couple of crimp-on threaded rod cable ends from the local marine supply store. I'll just cut a new cable to the correct length, insert it in the casing, and crimp on the ends. I'll try to post pics.

Good idea, marine supply store. Almost all boats use cables for steering & such.
