Work? What's that? I just go out to the garage and play. Been retired since 2005. Spent 35 years as a radio announcer/DJ and then 5 years at Summit racing just before I retired. And no, I really wasn't trying to rub it in. Or maybe I was! Mike

Remember them? I still have 78's! And a collection of about 10,000 old radio shows. Still listen to them on occasion. But I digress!

Re: Work? Where do you guys work at?
Well, I'm with the retired guys, sorta. I spent 27 years as a Firefighter and retired from Portland, OR Fire on December 1, 1999. Since then I've driven commercial truck which is what I did prior to getting into the Fire Bureau. I continued driving part time during my career so never lost touch. I spent a lot of years hauling wood by products (chips, sawdust, shavings) out of lumber mills but that got slow and I didn't work much for a couple years. I answered an ad in the local paper because my wife thought I should be working so now I haul crushed cars part time out of wrecking yards around parts of OR and WA. I like it because I love hanging out at wrecking yards. Most of the time we are just in and out with a load, but if we are moving into a new job I get a couple hours to check things out if they crush a load for me.

Re: Work? Where do you guys work at?
I am a mechanic/vehicle test driver at Navistar/International Truck and Engine Corp. My job title is group leader in the Vehicle Accustics Lab My where we test and develop sound packages to make trucks quiet inside and out.the first seven years here I was on second shift and had to drive durability trucks at our proving grounds all night long (50 laps per night). imagine driving a loaded (and sometimes empty) semi over the worst road ever at 14 mph. A 1.1 mile lap around the course is equal to 40 miles of severely bad road. I dont have to do that anymore due to my lower back was being compressed. sorry ,I cant post pictures due to trade secrets.

I too love my job working on old cars and truck`s at my Auto shop called Troxell`s Brake and Alignment. It mostly a restoration shop though. I wake up early everyday and cant wait to go to work. And when not working I play with my R/T or Tank or just out riding dirt bike`s.

Great thread, it is interesting to see the diversity of this group brought together by the sweptline. I am a mechanic for the Valley Center-Pauma unified school dist. 22 years in and about that left. Erik

Re: Work? Where do you guys work at?
I did construction management, as one guy said one time, basically a glorified babysitter making sure the crews got the job done. Did that for about a year and a half after college and then got laid off end of last year. Started last month with Yancey Bros Cat as the rental coordinator here in town. Having a blast with it so far, had two new 988H rubber tire loaders come in this week for a customer working at Plant Vogtle, was playing around with them yesterday. Tires stand at better then 6' on this machine!! We've got a lot of equipment rented at Plant Vogtle where the two new nuclear reactors are being built, I've been there a few times, biggest jobsite I've ever seen in my life. I think I heard 1000 acres or more!!
