Re: Unfriendly Board
I read every single post on this site but I don't have time to respond to every single one. I have to pick and choose. Like mentioned before, others have placed speakers in the kick panel area so it may not be the most comment worthy. Is that the only post you were refering too? I remember when you were here before and seemed to get lots of comments on your truck because it was so unique, then you disappeared for a long time. I wondered what had become of the truck. It sounds like you made some changes but you never went into detail about them.

Re: Unfriendly Board
John called it. I was giving you a shot because I saw something unusual and unexpected in a sweptline. He is also correct that I drive a tractor/trailer, An '03 Pete with a 475 Cat/10 speed.Hobcobble wrote: Although you didn't receive a reply
RELATED to your speaker placement, you did at least get some response. I can assure you that Russ
was poking fun. I just met him while traveling in Oregon & Washington a couple of weeks ago and
have known him on this and Norm's site. for the better part of a decade. As he drives a tractor
trailer for a living, he noticed your shifter set up immediately. He has a gear splitter in his '67
W200 so I'm sure he watched your video a couple of hundred times already! He's probably
figuring out the best way to put a 10spd gear box behind his 440 right now.....
Hang around Mike! You input is appreciated.
John

I'm probably going to keep the setup I've currently got in mine although a 10 speed shifts a lot better.

wideblock wrote: A. instead of paying attention to your responces, look at the number of views you get.
B. your post shows you are looking for some type of gratification of your work.
C. now, normally i would have said nothing since i didnt have anything nice to say, but if you need the comments, there is at least one for you.
D. your build and skills are worth reading about and following, but this attitude is worth walking away from. just my unmoderated 2cents
WB,
A. I don't give a s**t about the number of views it's the responses that I'm concerned about. Just like the way you replied about the speakers "hope you put some dyna matt or something in that cavity or they are gonna sound like crap". This is what I'm after, good solid info from a "senior" member thats been there done that.
B. Gratification I get is building a nice solid truck thats going to give me years of trouble free service. I want to be able to hook up the travel trailer and run up to Hollister without breaking down. Thats gratifying

C. don't be a softy, I'm old school, you ain't going to hurt my feelings so speak up if you see something wrong or have a tip! Thats what I'm complaining about.
D. Maybe if I was a better writer I would have communicated better in my opening thread(s). One statement I do regret saying " I really don't need help" sorry guys but I do need help and direction. I know what I want but not always the best way to achieve it.
Example, the F-350 radiator had to be leaned back 7deg. so the hood would close. Now I'm stumped on building the fan shroud, a buddy came by and advised using rubber. The cover all man stopped by and gave an idea too. I didn't do it either way they suggested but they both planted the seed that got the ball rolling. Now after learning some new course words the W has a very nice fan shroud made out of aluminum and tin. If it wasn't for their tips I might not have achieved such a nice shroud.
Is it possible the board needed this little spark?

Re: Unfriendly Board
Mr.Mc, I am just a punk kid. I really am. I have many people who have nothing to do with me. I do non fit into anyone's clicks. I am not a egg head with a book in my hand all the time. I am a 'C' average student and I work like a dog for the grades I get. I can spend all day studying for a test while some other kids spend their day at the pool, and they will make better grades by far! I don't play computer games or do I spend much time at all on a computer. I use it for school work, check my mail and have a few forums I belong to. So I'm out with the gamers and nerds. I don't play sports, so I'm out there. I don't smoke dope or drink alcohol. Another biggy, I don't drive a chevy. My Dodge gets laughed at. It's called an' old mans truck' Or a 'Farm truck' or 'Hop hauler' Around here my school is 90% Hispanic. There is one only other white kid in my math class, they all speak spanish around us and treat us like outsiders. The ones that drive all drive chevys that hop and jump up and down with hydraulics. They take a total wreck and put nice wheels and tires on it. It just seems nuts! Some drive incredibly nice cars and I have no idea where they get their money from. These are the times I wish I had a Hemi in my truck and I would love to leave them sitting in rubber smoke.
I have already had my truck keyed twice already this year. I can't even park it at school anymore. I park it where I get my hair cut. He understands and is good enough to let me do this. It's a 1/2 mile walk, no big deal. I guess it a good thing I have a cheap paint job.
The greatest day of my life will be the day I leave Canyon County Idaho. There appears to be a lot of Sweptliners in Colorado, perhaps I will look in to settling there.
I said a lot of goofy stuff in this post that really has nothing to do with anything. What I meant to say, I feel good here and I like the people here. I feel like I fit in here.. I try to send HellBelly a couple dollars once in a while. It will never be much but it will be something to help with the site. I have never done that to any forum, for any reason. I do it because I appreciate the help I get here.
When you came up with the idea it was an unfriendly board, I could not have posted right away after reading your post. Because it cut me, you know? My response would have been terribly disrespectful. Even though I might be just a kid, I have been raised right. I have two Granddads retired from the Army and the Marine Corps. I have had LOTS of instruction on how to act. I pride myself on being humble and respectful and actually using the manners I have been taught. I had to wait a while to post because I was a little pissed off. Never post when pissed.
So... Here is the gist of this post...
Please give this a try,,, Write out your post and save it. Read it again the next day or at least a few hours later and see if you still want to post it or at least modify it. I do this a lot. If I didn't do this, I would have no friends at all. Or no help from the guys here either. You all would be telling me to 'Beat it, you goofy @#% kid'

Re: Unfriendly Board
Just returned from a mini vacation so am coming in to this a little late. I am astounded at this thread! I saw the speaker thread and said, "Been there, done that, got both the hat and the T-shirt." Glad it worked for you. I didn't comment because I, personally, don't care for sounds in my truck. Too many years spent in radio with music blasting in my ears. Now all I want to hear is the sound of my engine. I suppose I could have said something like, "What are you doing? That is going to sound like crap!" I feel that is just rude and I was taught to keep negative thoughts to my self. I, for one, enjoy this site, much more than any of the other sites I sometimes visit. I have never asked for help or comments where I didn't get some reaction. Sometimes good, sometimes bad but always something. I have on occasion posted something that got no response but never when I asked for some input. We don't read minds well or at least I don't. I can't see your body language so don't know exactly what you want or need. You have to tell me. That said, most of your truck I really like. Even the yellow, although yellow always reminds me of a lemon and I don't think your truck qualifies!! That was meant as a joke so hope you took it that way. I will now get off my soap box. Thanks for listening! Mike

Re: Unfriendly Board
I'm not quite sure why but this thread, well the first part, reminds me of when the EX used to come into the room and announce that WE were going to talk about MY feelings
In reality what was going to happen is that SHE was going to explain to ME all the varied and sundry ways that I had hurt HER feelings.
Note she is the EX
I come here to share what I know and ask about what I don't. I'm not really worried about inadvertently and unknowingly hurting someones feelings. If I do it on purpose, there will be no doubt, but that will rarely if ever happen here as it rarely happens in real life.
I may be the oaf she accused me of being, but it doesn't even enter my head that NOT replying to each and every post is hurting someones feelings.
So, please accept my blanket apology for being an oaf, but at 55 I'm unlikely to change. I very much enjoy all posts here and find it an exceedingly friendly and civil board and I'm very glad I found it.

Thanks Dave, That would rule! I would treat it exactly as it were mine. Like if I tore it up, I'd be the one to have to fix it.
