Fuse block replacement 1966 dodge w100
Fuse block replacement 1966 dodge w100
Hello again everyone. Ive purchased the book from bishko but still struggling a bit with my fuse block. Truck didn't come with original so I installed an aftermarket fuse panel but I am struggling with what runs what. Does anyone know what wires power what in the fuse panel. Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question but hooking this up per the book has things working without the key which is super odd. Thanks for any input

I am sorry that I can't specifically answer your question. I am not schooled in the 60s trucks wiring, only the 70s.
But in general, usually fuse boxes had two rows of fuses. One row got power directly from the positive terminal of the battery & these were HOT no matter if the key was on or not. This included brake lights, hazards & horn. Headlight switch also had power at all times, but I don't know if it was fused.
The other row of fuses was keyed power, meaning they received power from the ignition switch only had power when the ignition key was in the run or accessary position. This included radio, wiper motor, heater blower motor & turn signals.
Again, I am sorry I can't be of more help. I have only owned 2 sweptline era trucks & never messed with the wiring on either.

Thanks for the response Bucky. I appreciate it. We've just had our first child so it's been tough getting out to tinker around. I wrapped up my lean burn delete on my 83 B150 and made it back out this morning and cleaned some grounds and added one to the taillight buckets on the sweptline.712edf wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 6:15 pmI am sorry that I can't specifically answer your question. I now have taillights/running lights in rear, however, they only come on when the key is turned on rather than the headlight switch (That's still a step forward at least).
I have steady running lights in rear with working turn signals ,however, the fronts are only blinking when the turn signal switch is engaged.
The other odd thing I can't figure out is my left turn signal indicator on the dash is constantly on when ignition switch is turned. It doesn't trigger the blinker unless I use the T/S switch and then it will blink.
I'm assuming that I have something mixed up with the the new fuse block wiring. It seems so simple yet I can't get it straight. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be more than willing to listen and learn.
Thanks,
Derek

Re: Fuse block replacement 1966 dodge w100
There was a thread on this site several years ago that explained in detail how the turn signals worked in these old trucks. And it was fascinating because on the trucks with front side marker lights (70-71?) the front & side would alternate while flashing. If there weren't wired properly, they would either flash simultaneously or not at all if I remember correctly.
Also, while I can't say about the trucks, I do know that on certain 1967 model cars (Chrysler 300 for example) the front park lights would come on when the headlight switch was pulled out to the Park position, but then go off again when then headlight switch was pulled out all the way to the On position. This created confusion at times.
I think taillights should work off of the headlight switch, even with key OFF. Do the headlights work with key OFF?
The turn signals should work ONLY when the key is ON, regardless of whether the headlight switch is ON.
4-way hazards (if so equipped, not sure what year they came about) should work no matter what position the key nor the headlight switch is in. The turn signal lever should be off to use hazards & likewise the hazards off to use T/S.
Used to be on certain vehicles, an illuminated T/S dash bulb meant that one of the bulbs on that side was bad. I can't say if that is so on yours & it may have occurred only when the T/S lever was activated for that side.

Here is a short thread that addresses the steering column wire colors for the T/S switch. Note it is for 1968 so it may vary from 1966.
