So my 68 d100 with a 225 wont start. Battery is good. I have a new electronic distributor from ebay. It comes with the resister and coil. I havent installed that yet but I will soon. Ill also get some plugs while im at it. Any recommendations for plugs? Do I need rings with it? Any recommendations on wires?
Im also going to have my starter rebuilt while I have everything apart. Any thoughts on anything else? Thanks!
Wont start

Re: Wont start
First the easy stuff....
Gas + Spark engine will run... although maybe not good.
What did you do or change that is "new" to the truck just after it did run, and now it won't?
Do you have spark at the plugs?
Do you have gas "squirting" in the carb when you move the accelerator?
Does the engine crank over fast or not very good?
I still use Champion plugs although I don't recall what "number" they are now.
I still believe in Points, condenser and coil... and those things are EASY to check.

I actually didnt change anything. I was sitting for a few weeks thats why I thought it was initially the battery. The carb is shooting fuel as well. At first it cranked very slow. I charged and tested the battery. Put it back on now nothing.
I havent tested the spark yet but I will this weekend. I haven't done much to it since I bought it last year. Its been running great. I figured I go through it now since its not running. I saw rf10 champion plugs on ebay for $20. Ill get to the distributor and coil this weekend as well.

Make sure all your battery connections on BOTH ends are clean. May be some corrosion somewhere.

If the battery post cable clamps have been replaced with those universal, clamp on the wire type, open them up and check for corrosion. I've seen the wire become so corroded it would not make connection or a poor connection.
Do the headlights work? If so, at full illumination? Attempt to crank it with the headlights on. Do they remain at full illumination? Become dim? Go out?

Re: Wont start
That's a good point about turning the lights on and trying to crank while they are on . It's possible that the battery "could" check out to 12V but in reality, it may have a bad cell which would prevent it from cranking the engine.

It can also indicate voltage drop across a poor connection.
