Distributor cap during order 318

Just changed plugs, wires, cap and rotor after purchasing 69 d200. Simply plugged everything into new cap where it was plugged into the old cap. After verifying correct firing order I want to make sure I have number 1 cylinder connected to the number 1 Tower on the cap. There is no marker and I've found many different answers online as to which Tower is number 1. Diagrams have shown it in different places as well. It ran fine before this, but the varied answers I've seen have me concerned.

#1 is where the rotor points at TDC on compression stroke of cyl #1.
There is NO particular one it can be, thus no mark on cap. It all depends on which teeth on the distributor drive gear mesh with the cam shaft. It could be any one of the eight.
Anyone trying to post a "diagram" is an ignorant fool misleading the unknowing.

That makes more sense and it's kind of what I've found. Thanks

If you did NOT remove the distributor & the new rotor points to the same place as the old one (it should) then the new wires should also go back to the same spot on the new cap.

if you removed the distributor, the bottom of the shaft has a tab that fits into a slot, so it will either be the same place, or 180 degrees off.
