Drivetrain question.

Post by RoukoSadra »

Well I have a 318poly on a NP 435 trans up to a NP201 T-case to a Spicer 60 rear end on my 66 W200 and I was wondering how to figure out the gear ratios for this truck and what its top speed would be. Any help would be helpfull.

4th gear is direct and T case is 1 to 1 when in high. Top speed depends on gear ratio in diff plus diameter of tires and some math.
My truck is younger than me.

See your build thread for your axle gear ratios.

So the tag says it has 4.10 gears and a 32" tire, would that get me 60mph if I have the motor tuned right?

Tire has to turn approx 630 turns in a mile, gear ratio of 4.10, means engine will have to turn about 2600 to make 60mph. This is theoretical, it never turns out perfect, but gives a good general idea. If you want it more precise, mark your tire, then mark how many feet it covers in one revolution. Divide that number into a mile, 5280 ft, then multiply that by the diff ratio, you will then be very close.

Did you check that there isn't still a little metal tag hanging from a bolt on the front or rear diff? It will say what gears if so. My rear was gone but front was there labeled 4.09 which means the rear is 4.10
