adjusting / removing steering on box d100
adjusting / removing steering on box d100
This past Christmas my son gave me a good condition 1966 d100 with 318 engine. Truck is in very good shape considering. Little rust, engine runs good. The steering has play from 9 to 3. Can anybody tell me how I may adjust the steering box; if possible? Or how to remove and send to be rebuilt? I was thinking of sending to Rockauto? anyone have a better place?

You can put up an ad in the Parts Wanted section and
I'm sure he'll respond.

Bud did my box and it is wonderful. Ask him about the steering column bushing while you have it apart.

I bought a kit for roughly $35 and rebuilt mine. It's not difficult to do.

Hey EM,
Where did you get the rebuild kit? I have found I can buy a rebuilt box for around $250 but haven't found the rebuild kit, if I can save a couple hundred by installing a rebuild kit myself it leave a bunch of change for Fuzzy dice or maybe some cold ones.
Thanks,
Metal Turkey

Re: adjusting / removing steering on box d100
I'd try adjusting it first and replenish the oil. I did that to my '68 and it made a world of difference, with just that.

looks like robertob did a how to rebuild and adjust on the model 525d on the Shop Talk Board under Technical Write up's. Some time back my 67 GMC Super Custom needed adjustment, after completed the adjustment it eliminated the excessive play.

2 step,
Great, thanks for the info. Exactly what I was looking for. I will order the kit and install it before I put the engine back in, a little more working room that way. I well of course have that cold own in your honor, hell why not two cold ones.
Thanks,
