Does anyone know if the hinges for a '70 are rebuildable? It seems that the pins are heavily swedged in place. Tried a press and they ain't movin' Anyone know how to get them apart to rebuild them? OR if it is even possible. If it is possible, who makes parts?
Thanks,
Jamie

VPW sells, or used to sell, new pins with brass bushings for around $10. Ive never tried to do the install, but it may require grinding, cutting or drilling.

You can also check the HELP section of your parts store. They too sold Pins and Bushing kits. I am NOT sure of the diameter of them, but they were used on GM trucks. Most likely it wouldn't matter anyway because you would drill out the hinge and put a bronze bushing in place. The bushing fits the new pin.
I remember that VPW used to sell them for Dodges but I have no idea of the "size" they used. Prices would be about the same anyway...

I rebuilt mine with the VPW kit. It took a couple of days of soaking, a little heating, and a lot of beating. I also used a Dremel to clean up the portion of the pin exposed below the hinge. I then had to drill out the hinge to the proper size for the new pins. The pins are bigger probably to account for the fact that the hole in the hinge was egg shaped.

OK. Thanks. I was on VPW's site and didn't see kits for these year trucks. Were you using a kit for an earlier truck?
