am i one to something, or just on something???

Post by wideblock »

i noticed today that out of 4 rear ends, 3.23 open, 3.55 open, 2.76 open, and a 3.91 posi - that the posi had a bigger rear ujoint and yolk then all the opens. could this be a way of identifying a posi without tearing it out of the truck first??? or was the big joint an option for towing or something?? :thinking

That would be cool if you could but it doesn't work. You can fit a suregrip in almost any center section and it doesn't care what spline the yoke is. The bigger yoke, 10 spline and 7290 ujoint was used for the highout applications and would match the one in the front of the driveshaft. I know for a while some of the bigger yokes were hard to find and expensive if you could find them. Now they are being reproduced. Manicini Racing sells a u-joint that will mate a 7290 rear section to a 7260(small u-joint) drive shaft or vice versa. Pretty cool deal! Anyway, the only real way to tell if it is a suregrip rear is when you turn the yoke the axels should turn the same direction.
